Founded in 1915 in Detroit and with headquarters now in Indianapolis, Kiwanis International is a thriving organization of service- and community-minded individuals who support children and young adults around the world. More than 600,000 Kiwanis-family members in 96 countries make their mark by responding to the needs of their communities and pooling their resources to address worldwide issues. Through these efforts, Kiwanis International truly is "Serving the Children of the World." Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. Our members develop youth as leaders, build playgrounds and raise funds for pediatric research. We help shelter the homeless, feed the hungry, mentor the disadvantaged and care for the sick. Working together, members achieve what one person cannot accomplish alone. And along the way, club members share friendship and laughter.

This posting is late but still incredible! In May, at the end of the school year, we met with 950 students in 57 classrooms in Ypsilanti Community Schools Erickson, Estabrook, Holmes and YIES Elementaries. Kids picked out over 2000 gently used books. Many thanks to the principals, media specialists, and teachers who allowed us to take time out of their day to put books in kids hands, and encourage summer learning by pitching Ypsilanti District Library’s Summer Challenge. Also many thanks to the Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor with who we collaborate at Holmes Elementary!

The Ypsilanti Kiwanis Club, led by President Vicki Salemi, was proud to host representatives from several area Kiwanis clubs for some fun and fellowship. Most importantly it was an opportunity to share community service ideas and plans. Ypsilanti Kiwanis was proud to present on their new emphasis on literacy in Ypsilanti schools and their support of EMU CKI (university level of the K family). Thank you to members from Kiwanis in Chelsea, Ann Arbor, Ann Arbor Western and Belleville. Special thanks to Aubree's Pizzeria & Grill for serving us.
