Not everyone went over the edge.

But some of the most important people at Over the Edge were standing on the ground. 💙

Friends.
Family.
Coworkers.
Kids.
Neighbors.
Volunteers.
Supporters.

They held signs. They took photos. They bought $5 shout-outs. They screamed names into the microphone. They waved. They laughed.

And when someone stepped off that roof, they were there to cheer them on.

That's community.

The session will also provide information about how to sign up for a support group and what participants can expect.

Let's talk about COURAGE. 🧗‍♀️

Because it takes a special kind of person to look over the edge of a 11-story building and say:

“Yep. I'm doing this.”

To every single one of our Over the Edge rappellers — THANK YOU!

You raised money.
You recruited your friends and family.
You stepped outside your comfort zone.
You climbed onto that roof.
And then you stepped over the edge.

Your willingness to take on the challenge helped raise funds for Friends In Deed and our nonprofit partners.

We couldn't ask for a better group of people to take the leap with us.

They checked people in.
They handed out shirts.
They helped direct traffic.

Seven years.

That’s how long Lorin Cartwright and Bob Thompson have been helping Friends In Deed take Over the Edge — literally and figuratively!

For seven years, Lorin and Bob have served as our Over the Edge co-chairs, helping bring people together, rally support and make this event happen year after year.

Their commitment, energy and willingness to keep showing up have made an enormous difference.

So this year, we want to say something simple:

What an incredible day for community.

Over the Edge 2026 brought together Friends In Deed, our nonprofit partners Educate Youth and Hands Across the Water, community supporters, volunteers, sponsors, and some very brave rappellers for an unforgettable day at Eastern Michigan University.

We are especially grateful to Bank of Ann Arbor for supporting the event, to the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office and Prosecutor’s Office for joining us on the building, and to Ypsilanti Press LLC, our news media sponsor, for helping us share the story.

And to every person who donated, fundraised, volunteered, rappelled, cheered, or helped spread the word: THANK YOU.

We are currently at 73% of our fundraising goal.

The event may be over, but the fundraising continues — and every contribution helps Friends In Deed continue Helping people in need and building community to end poverty.

Stop by anytime between 3–6 PM at the Morris Lawrence Building at Washtenaw Community College.

Come talk with our team, connect with DTE, ask questions, and learn more about resources that may be available to help with your energy costs and other needs.

We’ll be there to listen, answer questions, and help you connect with the right resources.

Over the Edge was never just about rappelling.

It was about PEOPLE. 💙

The people who climbed 11 stories to rappel down Hill Hall.

The people who donated.

The people who volunteered before sunrise.

The people who cheered from below.

The people who organized, photographed, served food, checked people in, handed out T-shirts, ran tables, made announcements, and kept everything moving.
