The Center of Race & Ethnicity at EMU is excited to join the EMU Community in recognizing Juneteenth!
Juneteenth is the celebration of the day the Emancipation Proclamation could be enforced in Galvaston,TX.
This actualization closed a chapter of exploitation and violence for nearly 4 million people in 1865.
Around 160 years later, Juneteenth would be recognized as a Federal Holiday in 2021 after activism led by, Dr. Opal Lee.
Now, across the country, we have a greater opportunity to acknowledge woven themes of Juneteenth such as struggle, joy, and persistence.
We at CORE, would like to invite you into a See, Think, Wonder Practice about Juneteenth. To learn more and look at our sources check out the Juneteenth Newsletter linked in our bio!
