Use Caution On Ypsilanti EMU B2B Trail Segment

Recently a repaving of the parking lot at the Eastern Michigan University Convocation Center, adjacent to Hewitt Road, was started but one more layer of asphalt still needs to be applied. This includes one more layer on the curb cut “ramps” where the B2B Trail crosses a parking lot entrance.

The City of Ypsilanti Non-Motorized Committee contact the University and according to EMU, the final repaving should take place next week. Until this is done, if traveling on this B2B segment, be aware of curb cut drop offs of one, to one-and-a-half, inches and reduce your speed.

Also, keep in mind that bicycle tires that have a lower-than-normal pressure may be more prone to having a tire tube go flat. These are called pinch flats, or snake bite flats, which is a flat tire that happens after you bump a curb and accidentally pinch the inner tube against the rim. Correct tire pressure is stamped on the sidewall of the tire.
