🍂🍎 Fall Fun & Community Connections! 🍁

This past 2nd Saturday, Our House enjoyed a beautiful fall day at Wiards Orchards for Community Awareness Weekend!

Our House staff joined other wonderful organizations, including Corner Health, Ozone House, and the Ypsilanti District Library, to share valuable resources and connect with our community.

We also provided our youth and attendees with tickets to enjoy all that Wiard’s has to offer—from hayrides and visiting the animals to fun fall festivities!🚜🐐

It was a wonderful day filled with c***r, donuts, laughter, and community building! We’re grateful for opportunities like these to bring people together, create memories, and celebrate our amazing community. 🧡

💙 Wellness Workshop: Health Basics 💙

At our latest Wellness Workshop, NP Kat spent time with our youth covering the basics of taking care of their health and building confidence when it comes to their overall wellness.

These workshops create a comfortable space for our youth to ask questions, learn practical information, and better understand how to advocate for their own health.

Wellness Workshop with Three Moon Motherhood

Last night, we welcomed the doulas from Three Moon Motherhood 🌙 for a special Wellness Workshop with our young moms from the Nest and Jenkins Family Program! 💜

We gathered together over food for an open Q&A where our moms had the opportunity to ask prenatal and postnatal questions, learn more about pregnancy and postpartum care, and connect with knowledgeable support.

We’re so thankful to Three Moon Motherhood for creating a welcoming space for our young moms to ask questions, learn, and feel supported. And, of course, there’s nothing better than sharing a meal and learning together! 🥰

🏕️ A Day of Connection, Growth & New Experiences! 💚

Our annual camp day was one to remember! Thanks to the generous support of Kiwanis and Ann Arbor YMCA for hosting us, our youth, mentors, volunteers, and staff were able to spend an incredible day learning, creating, connecting, and simply having fun together.

We shared meals, made s’mores around the campfire, created artwork, tie-dyed shirts, tried archery, and learned valuable skills like using our breath as a tool to stay calm and grounding techniques to help us feel present and centered.

For many of our youth, opportunities like this can offer experiences they may not otherwise have the chance to enjoy. New experiences can spark hope, curiosity, creativity, confidence, and connection—and we are so grateful to be able to create these moments together. ❤️

Wellness Workshop Highlight 💰💙

Last week’s Wellness Workshop focused on Financial Literacy & Foundations! Our youth explored common misconceptions and stigma surrounding finances, discussed some of the emotional barriers that can come with money, and practiced ways to be more intentional with spending.

Financial wellness is about more than just budgeting—it’s about building confidence, developing healthy habits, and feeling empowered to make informed financial decisions.

📣 Our House is hiring!
We’re looking for a Family Health Coordinator to join our team and help support pregnant and parenting youth and young adults as they build healthy, stable futures for themselves and their children.

This is a relationship-centered role for someone who believes that relationships come before paperwork, enjoys teaching and coaching, and is passionate about helping young people navigate systems and access the resources they need.

The Family Health Coordinator will:
✨ Help participants navigate medical, dental, behavioral health, and specialty care
✨ Provide individualized parenting education and support
✨ Connect families with resources such as childcare, WIC, Early On, and Early Head Start
✨ Conduct home and community visits
✨ Collaborate with our Health Services, Housing, Mentoring, and Life Skills teams
✨ Help young parents build confidence, stability, and healthy relationships with their children

We’re especially interested in candidates with backgrounds in nursing, social work, human services, education, early childhood, public health, psychology, community health, or related fields. Experience with parenting education, doula work, home visiting, family support, or working with youth and families is a plus.

If you’re someone who wants to do meaningful, community-based work and help young people know that they don’t have to navigate adulthood alone, we’d love to hear from you. ❤️

Second Saturday Recap 📂✨

On Saturday, we hosted our August Second Saturday event featuring a Life Binder Workshop led by Cat.

Youth received their own Life Binder to help organize and safely store important personal documents such as birth certificates, Social Security cards, IDs, and other essential records. We also shared valuable community resources and discussed where to seek support when needed.

Having important documents organized and accessible is an important step toward independence and stability. Thank you, Cat, for leading such an informative and empowering workshop, and thank you to everyone who joined us!

🏡July Housing Event: Exploring Postsecondary Opportunities with WCC REACH & EMU Magic

Our housing participants had the opportunity to attend an informative workshop hosted by EMU MAGIC and WCC REACH, where they learned about the many educational pathways and support services available through Eastern Michigan University and Washtenaw Community College.

The session introduced participants to postsecondary options, financial and academic resources, and the programs designed to help students succeed throughout their educational journey. We are grateful to EMU MAGIC and WCC REACH for investing in our young adults and helping empower them to pursue their educational and career goals with confidence.

Wellness Workshop Highlight✨

Last week, our youth took part in a therapeutic exploration workshop led by Cat and Centia. Through creative activities and guided reflection, participants had the opportunity to express themselves, explore their emotions, and connect with one another in a supportive environment.

Every year, one of our favorite traditions brings the Our House family together for a day of connection, laughter, and unforgettable memories. ❤️

A heartfelt thank you to the Clauw Family for once again opening your home, donating your time, and generously providing a delicious BBQ for our youth, mentors, staff, board members, and volunteers. Your kindness and hospitality create a space where meaningful relationships grow and everyone feels welcomed.

A special thank you as well to Zingerman's Bakehouse for donating an incredible assortment of baked goods and treats that made the day even sweeter!

Days like these remind us that community is built through generosity, shared experiences, and the people who show up year after year to make a difference. We are so grateful to everyone who helped make this annual tradition another incredible success. 💙
