After transitioning from a local shelter, our client, this morning (10/16) was ready to turn his new space into a home. And our lead training team (more about that later) had the pleasure of making that happen!

At nearly seven feet tall, he had one very important request: sturdy, oversized furniture! He also shared his love of dark green, tropical themes, plants, sci-fi and fantasy books, and baking. A desk, bookshelf, headboard, and a few sweet treats were on his wish list, too.

Our paint and repair teams worked their magic, while our incredible heavy lifters tackled the biggest challenge of the day—hoisting an extra-long couch up and over a second-story balcony!

Our client was soft-spoken throughout the process, but when he walked through the door for his reveal, his excitement said it all.

“Oh my God! It’s perfect! Wow! Thank you so much!”

A home filled with personal touches, furniture that truly fits, and a fresh start. Another beautiful reminder of why we do what we do. WELCOME HOME!

Lead training. Two “leads” take responsibility for interviewing a client and determining what they need and want. They are also responsible for engaging other volunteers in helping them with the selection (shopping) of items in our storage facility, communication, special requests, cleaning and packing everything, as well as coordinating the move-day. When our volunteers are ready for that task, they attend “lead training” and then finally work on a client all together. Today was their day!!

After spending an entire year living in a tent, our second client on Wednesday (10/14) was finally moving into a home of her own. She could barely contain her excitement!

She was grateful for absolutely anything, but one of her requests touched us most: cleaning supplies and a wastebasket. She was so ready to care for a place she could finally call home.

When we asked about hobbies, she struggled to remember what she once enjoyed, eventually mentioning cross-stitch and adult coloring. We made sure to include both.

Her face lit up when she saw her teal and burgundy living room. And when she entered her bedroom, she quietly shared that blue had been her mother's favorite color. She especially loved the original artwork.

Throughout the reveal, she fought back tears, overwhelmed with gratitude.

But it was her final words that we'll never forget. As we were leaving, she poked her head out the door and shouted, “Thank you for the garbage can!”

After a year of living in a tent, even a garbage can meant the world. Because sometimes it's the simplest things that make a house feel like home. WELCOME HOME!

With a baby girl due around Christmas and a five-year-old son who will spend part of his time with her, our first client today (10/14) was determined to build a stable, loving home for her growing family.

Referred to House N2 Home by Interfaith Hospitality Network–Alpha House, she was eager to leave the shelter behind and begin a new chapter. During our intake interview, she was actually walking to work—seven months pregnant! But she knew exactly what she wanted: calming colors for her bedroom, cheerful yellows and oranges for her kitchen and bathroom, and rich greens and jewel tones for her living room. Most importantly, she wanted a cozy, comfortable home filled with color and texture.

Our team got to work transforming her small, empty apartment into a beautiful space for her family. We created a cozy living room with plenty of pillows, a rocking chair, and a special spot for nursing her new baby. We found room for the crib in her bedroom, made sure her son had bedding for his visits, and stocked her kitchen with everything she needed, including food since she hadn't yet been able to get to the store.

When our client returned, she was amazed! She couldn't believe how perfectly we had captured her vision from that brief conversation while she walked to work. Every color, texture, and thoughtful detail felt just right.

She had to rush off to work before we were even finished, but she couldn't wait to come home and enjoy her new space.

As we were leaving, she summed it all up with five beautiful words:
“It's like Christmas morning!”

After two nights of sleeping on the floor of their new apartment, a young mother, her partner, and their little boy finally have a furnished place to call home!

Referred to House N2 Home by SOS Community Services, after staying in a family shelter, our client today (10/13) had recently moved into a two-bedroom apartment with almost no furnishings. She and her partner dreamed of a living room filled with green and pink, a bedroom in grey and red, and a cozy space for their little boy.

Both love to cook, bake, read, and create, so we made sure to include plenty of thoughtful touches. Thanks to our amazing sewing team, we even provided a sewing machine with supplies (a hat they asked for), a crochet and yarn kit, a handmade tablecloth, and a changing pad cover!

After a little cleaning and lots of teamwork, the apartment was transformed into a warm, welcoming home, complete with furniture, artwork, toys, books, and everything needed to settle in.

When our client walked through the door, she couldn't stop saying, "Thank you!" But when she entered her bedroom, the emotions took over. Through her tears, she said, "We don't deserve this."

Of course they do. Everyone deserves a comfortable place to call home.

And sometimes it's the little things that bring the biggest smiles. Along with their beautiful new home, the couple was especially excited about the frozen food, cookies, and a pair of rooster salt and pepper shakers!

Our second client on Friday (10/8) was a retired Navy veteran, a quiet and polite gentleman who had spent nine months at Haven for Hope after leaving an unsafe living situation. With help from the Salvation Army, he finally had a place to call his own.

When we asked what he needed, his only requests were a desk and a hat rack. Perhaps he didn't want to ask for too much. But we knew he deserved so much more!

The Salvation Army provided a queen-size bed, and our team took care of the rest. We had a wonderful time transforming his empty apartment into a welcoming home, filled with black and white and fun splashes of red.

He may have asked for just two things, but we were thrilled to give this Navy veteran an entire home and the fresh start he deserves. WELCOME HOME! The Salvation Army Washtenaw County

Our third move on Friday was for a lovely young woman, ready for a fresh start in her very first apartment after spending several years at Ozone House.

With the support of Ozone House and a caseworker who couldn't be prouder of her, she has blossomed into a confident young woman ready to be on her own.

She knew exactly what she wanted—black, white, grey, and pops of red! Our volunteers had fun bringing her vision to life, finding the perfect black couch, red ottoman, coordinating bedding, and a small desk for studying and puzzles. Every room was filled with everything she needed to make this apartment a home.

We were told our client was quiet and soft-spoken, but when she walked through the door, her excitement said it all!

"Ohhhhh, I love it!" she exclaimed in the kitchen. "It's so pretty!" she said in the living room. And when she reached her bedroom, an even bigger "OOOOOOOH!"
It was so much more than she expected. She couldn't wait to try out her new bed, stretching out her arms lying in it. "It feels so nice to be on my own bed."

After years of working toward independence, she finally has a place to call her own. And that is what House N2 Home is all about! WELCOME HOME! Ozone House

After three long years of waiting, a young mother is one step closer to being reunited with her children.

Our first client on Thursday was a 23-year-old woman who has faced difficult times, including living in a shelter. Through a 12-month program with the Washtenaw County Family Treatment Court, she has been working hard to rebuild her life.

She’s now taking classes and preparing for a fresh start with her children.

Raised by her grandmother, who taught her to bake, she dreamed of a cozy, welcoming home filled with warm colors and special touches for her kids.

Her grandfather had already moved in a couch, giving our volunteers a wonderful starting point! Our art team added Mickey Mouse and KPop Demon Hunters artwork for her children, while our sewing team created a special Paw Patrol pillow.

When she walked in for the reveal, her smile said it all. “I love it! I love it! It’s so homey!”

But the most emotional moment came when she saw her children’s bedroom. Tears filled her eyes. And when she reached her very own bathroom, the tears came again.

After three years of waiting, this was more than a furnished apartment. It was a fresh start and a place where a family could finally come together again. WELCOME HOME!

After losing his wife shortly after the birth of their daughter four years ago, our client faced unimaginable challenges. Within a few years, he and his little girl were homeless, staying at Alpha House, couch surfing, and sometimes sleeping outside.

Along the way, he met a wonderful woman, and they fell in love. But without stable housing, they struggled to build the family life they dreamed of.

Their caseworker at Mission became an incredible advocate, even helping their daughter, who has autism, access therapy. Once nonverbal, she is now beginning to speak!

On Wednesday (10/7), HN2H helped turn their new house into a home. A nature-inspired living room, teal kitchen, beach-themed bathroom, and a peaceful purple and blue bedroom for the parents. But the crowning jewel was their little girl's magical under-the-sea bedroom, complete with carefully placed wall decals!

When the family walked in, they were overwhelmed. Our client's partner was shaking with emotion.

“I didn't expect to get emotional. I'm shaking all over. I can finally have some peace. This is incredible.”

After years of heartbreak and uncertainty, this family finally has what they've needed most: a safe place to be together, make memories, and call home. WELCOME HOME!
