Smiling While Sending Hope creates care packages for individuals with chronic illness and special needs from birth to 26. We also host a toy drive for Christmas that benefits all the local Children's Hospitals and Ronald Mcdonald Houses in Raleigh, Durham/Chapel Hill area. In 2023 we started offering caregiver and family outings throughout the year in hopes of providing a safe space for everyone to gather and feel a sense of connection.

It’s officially that time of year again, and things are getting BUSY at Smiling While Sending Hope! ❤️ Between toys, non-perishable food, donations, and all the moving parts of our annual Christmas Toy & Food Drive, we’re running out of room!

We are so incredibly thankful for everyone who continues to support our mission and help us spread hope throughout North Carolina. Every donation makes a difference, and we couldn’t do this without our amazing community! 🥹❤️

💙✨ CARE PACKAGE #2 — Meet Arlo! ✨💙

Our Charlotte adventure continued with another very special little warrior! 🥰

👶 Arlo, 8 months old

Arlo’s family shared that receiving these little surprises “gives our boy smiles and it lightens our day.” 🥹💙

That is exactly what Smiling While Sending Hope is all about! We may not be able to make the hospital stay disappear, but we can bring a little joy, a little encouragement, and hopefully a whole lot of smiles. 🎁😊

We were so excited to meet Arlo and bring him a special SWSH care package! 💙

💙 SWSH hit the road to a new hospital today— Levine Children's in Charlotte,NC!

We are SO excited to be able to meet up with two special kiddos during this adventure! 🥰

✨ CARE PACKAGE #1 — Meet Ace! ✨

🫀 Living with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome

Ace has been hospitalized for 8 months while waiting for a heart transplant. His family shared that he absolutely loves receiving mail and packages while he’s been in the hospital—and we hope this little surprise brings a BIG smile to his face! 🥰🎁

Being able to put together care packages for kids like Ace is one of the reasons Smiling While Sending Hope exists. Sometimes a simple package filled with love, encouragement, and a few surprises can brighten an incredibly difficult day. 💙

We are so thankful we got to meet Ace and bring a little SWSH love his way! 🥰

And guess what… this was only #1! 👀💙

Today was one of those days that reminded us why we do what we do. 💙

While attending the Back in the Woods Again, our founder, Katie, had the opportunity to meet an incredible 11-year-old spina bifida warrior. 🦽💙

Before the hunt, Katie was asked them if there were any kids under 18 who could receive a Smiling While Sending Hope care package. There was one name submitted—and that name became a very special care package for this amazing young warrior.

We were able to surprise them with a care package filled with a little love, encouragement, and reminders that they are seen, they matter, and they are never alone. 💙

And honestly… these are the moments that bring tears to our eyes. 🥹

When people least expect something from us, getting to show up and remind them that someone is thinking about them is what makes all the work worth it.

We were also honored to donate a raffle basket to the Back in the Woods Again Hunt to help raise money and support the incredible work behind this event. 🦌💙

Today wasn’t just about a care package or a raffle basket.

It was about connection, kindness, community, and reminding a young warrior that they have people cheering them on.

This is why we do what we do.

We see the ability in disabilities. We see YOU. 💙

Smiling While Sending Hope is a NC 501(c)(3) nonprofit supporting children, young adults, and families affected by chronic illness, disabilities, rare diseases, and special needs. ❤️

Our 13th Annual Christmas Toy & Food Drive helps us bring Christmas joy to families who may be facing medical and financial challenges by providing new toys and food during the Christmas season. 🎁🥫

We are looking for businesses, churches, schools, organizations, and community partners willing to become a drop-off location!

📅 October 31–December 10 — Donation Collection
🚚 December 11 — Pick-Up

🌦️🌪️ The Ability Club had a WILD time learning about weather! 🌪️🌦️

We had a very special guest join us—Matthew Huddle, weatherman from CBS 17! 📺🌤️ Matthew brought the Weather Beast and spent time answering all of our weather questions. We loved getting a behind-the-scenes look at weather forecasting!

Then it was time for some weather-themed fun! ☀️🌧️
