Smiling While Sending Hope

Smiling While Sending Hope Helping others in need of a little joy and comforting through all the hard times.

Smiling While Sending Hope creates care packages for individuals with chronic illness and special needs from birth to 26. We also host a toy drive for Christmas that benefits all the local Children's Hospitals and Ronald Mcdonald Houses in Raleigh, Durham/Chapel Hill area. In 2023 we started offering caregiver and family outings throughout the year in hopes of providing a safe space for everyone to gather and feel a sense of connection.

Small Town Girl with Big Dreams ✨

Katie Haynes is a small-town girl with big dreams and an even bigger heart for making a difference. Growing up in Youngsville, North Carolina, she learned the importance of hard work, kindness, and giving back to her community.

Despite facing the daily challenges of chronic illness and disability, Katie has never let her circumstances define her future. Instead, she has used her experiences to inspire others, advocate for the rare disease and disability communities, and bring hope to families who need it most.

What started as a simple 4-H project grew into Smiling While Sending Hope, a nonprofit organization that has impacted countless individuals and families through care packages, events, advocacy, and acts of kindness. From speaking up on Capitol Hill to representing the rare disease community across the country, Katie continues to prove that big dreams can come from small towns.

She believes that no matter where you come from or what challenges you face, your dreams are valid, your voice matters, and your story has the power to make a difference.

Just a small-town girl with big dreams, determined to leave the world a little brighter than she found it. 💛✨

Tonight was our final SWSH Ability Club meeting for this program year before we take a summer break until September! 💙✨

We had an amazing evening filled with STEM fun and creativity as our members built with LEGOs, created space-themed artwork, and started growing two crystals through a hands-on science activity! 🚀🔬

We are so thankful for all of the families, volunteers, and members who joined us throughout this year and helped make Ability Club such a special and inclusive space for creativity, friendship, and learning.

Thank you for another incredible year with the Smiling While Sending Hope Ability Club — we cannot wait to see everyone again in September! 💫

Yesterday, Smiling While Sending Hope hosted our Blanket & Card Community Service Day! Volunteers came together to make no-sew blankets and handmade cards that will be donated through our care package program to children and young adults with chronic illnesses, disabilities, and special needs.

We are incredibly thankful for everyone who took the time to volunteer, give back, and help spread kindness throughout our community. Every blanket and card created will help bring comfort, encouragement, and smiles to someone who needs it most.

Thank you to everyone who supported our mission and made this event so special! 💙

What an incredible evening for our community and for Smiling While Sending Hope💙

Tonight, the Town of Youngsville presented a proclamation recognizing the work of Smiling While Sending Hope and the impact we continue to make for children and young adults with chronic illnesses, disabilities, and rare diseases.

As a 26-year-old North Carolina native from Youngsville, this moment means more than words can express. What started as a small 4-H project has grown into something far beyond what I ever imagined — care packages, birthday boxes, hospital events, advocacy work on Capitol Hill, our coloring book project representing the disability community, and so much more.

This proclamation is not just for me — it’s for every family we’ve supported, every volunteer who has shown up, every donor who believed in us, and every child who reminded us why this mission matters.

Thank you to the Town of Youngsville for this incredible honor and for helping us continue spreading hope, awareness, inclusion, and smiles throughout our community and beyond. 💫
