In 2014, United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley was proud to be the first to bring Dolly Parton's Imagination Library to the Valley. ❤️📚

For the past 12 years, this incredible program has reached more than 24,000 children, delivering a free book to their homes every month. That’s nearly ONE MILLION books distributed in Mahoning County alone — a gift made possible by Dolly’s vision and generosity.

Today, we mourn a true national treasure. Dolly felt like a beloved coworker here at United Way. Her name was part of our everyday conversations as we worked to share the magic of Imagination Library throughout our community.

Together with partners like The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, area schools, and countless generous donors, we brought Imagination Library to families across the Valley and hosted Imagine Nights in communities throughout Mahoning County.

Most importantly, we helped children and families discover the lifelong joy of reading. 📖❤️

Sometimes, “thank you” doesn’t feel like enough. But Dolly understood what it meant to Live United.

Yesterday, United Way’s team volunteered at the Panerathon, and it was incredible to see our community come together for such a great cause! 💙 We’re proud to be part of an event that brings people together to make a difference.

United Way’s Success After 6 program is looking for Champions to provide educational instruction and support to K–5 students during the 2026–2027 school year!
Champions will be assigned to Boardman Center Intermediate School and Youngstown Community School.
