Do you agree we need to unite as citizens for the good of our country? If you find yourself HATING 50% of the country, simply because they disagree with you then please continue reading. I’m not naive in thinking that everyone that sees this will read it to the end but if only 2 people read it and pass it on maybe some good will come of it. I personally believe uniting is simple but not easy. Here are a few ideas to consider.
1) We should be seeking and sharing truth not things we simply get fed from our politicians or biased media.
2) We should try to see things from other people’s perspectives – Try listening to more than one or two news outlets that only seem to preach what you want to hear. Try listening to sources that don’t resort to name calling the “other side”. Try listening to podcasts from “The Other Side”. Try listening to someone with an opposing view and have a respectful, thoughtful conversation when the opportunity presents itself.
3) Try debating policy rather than ideology and refrain from calling each other deplorable names when we don’t agree.
4) Stop thinking of your politicians as part of a sports team. Admit when your side makes a mistake and participates in name calling. Hold them accountable, learn from mistakes and move forward.
Both sides have participated in divisive speech and tactics to play on our emotions for political gain. If we can’t see or admit that, then we must open our own blind eyes and look at ourselves before pointing fingers.
Unfortunately, in my opinion most politicians want division. They want us to be split into categorized tribes that they can manipulate to retain power. They would be terrified if we began having civil debates and uniting for the good of our country. They would actually have to work and produce results for our votes instead of running for office by bashing the other side rather than working with the other side. It’s easy for humans to fall into the trap of Tribal Hate but WE CAN STOP IT IF WE ONLY TRY.
If we ever want to get things right in this country and climb out of the deep abyss that the politicians (on both sides) have created for us, then WE must set the example, let them know we don’t appreciate the CRAZY talk and irresponsible actions just to remain in power and bathe in our tax dollars.
One last thought – Isn’t It interesting how we try to teach our children to make educated decisions, not to react on emotions (which result in hallway fights). Yet we adults act like children when it comes to politics.
Finally - I hope I’m not offending anyone here. I’m not promoting any political party. I have participated in the divisiveness in my past and probably won’t be perfect in the future. I’m in no way claiming high ground, I’m only promising I will try my best to be a uniter not a divider. This is my opinion and hopefully one or two people will get this, maybe add to it and pass it on. I don’t care if you copy and paste this on your own thread or forward it to others. For the few that will actually read this to the end, I thank you for your time and implore you to DO SOMTHING.
