Youngstown Community Boating Youngstown Community Boating provides access to the Lower Niagara River for adults and children, instilling a love of sailing. Some last a lifetime.

Sailors aged 7-17 are instilled with a love of sailing, along with the fundamental sailing skills, that they can build upon; they receive instruction in safe boating, seamanship, dinghy sailing, sailboat racing, and boat maintenance. And the friendships made in the Junior Program can be the most enduring they make. The Junior Sailing Program is open to the public, no membership required!

⛵️ First night back on the water! ☀️🌊

Our youth sailors kicked off the season with sunshine, steady breeze, and plenty of smiles. It was a great evening of learning, teamwork, and getting comfortable back in the boats after a long winter.

The wind was up, the sails were full, and the excitement for the season ahead was easy to see. We can’t wait for many more nights like this!

Josie Riley
Josie is a rising senior at Nardin Academy and has been part of the Youngstown junior sailing program for 10 years. She has sailed Prams, Optimists, and 420s and competes regularly in regattas. As captain of the Nardin sailing team, she races C420s and FJs across the Northeast. Josie is excited to begin her first year coaching this summer.

Jack Scully
Jack has been sailing since 2020, learning the ropes of Adventure Sailing, c420 Race Team and Wednesday night big boat racing. He is finishing up his freshman year at Purdue University and is a Naval ROTC midshipman. He is thrilled to return this summer as an Adventure sailing coach and share his love of the water with all of his junior sailors.

Jonah Cramer
Jonah grew up sailing in Olcott, New York, learning on his family’s J/24, Lightfoot, and now racing on a J/33, Jackpot. This will be his third year coaching in Youngstown. When not coaching, Jonah is actively racing and sailing locally while attending college full-time.

⛵ Meet the Youngstown Jr. Sailing Coaches!

Nicolas Schwindt – Opti Coach
Nico began sailing at age nine on a lagoon in Junín, Buenos Aires, where he quickly developed a passion for the sport. He started racing in the Optimist class before moving into the ILCA 4, where he won both the Central and South American Youth Championships in 2001 and competed at the ILCA 4 World Championship in Spain. In the late 2000s, Nico traveled the world aboard a Navy tall ship and later became a Naval Architect. He now coaches both youth and adult sailors in Argentina while also working as a cabinet maker. Nico is excited to return for his second summer coaching in Youngstown.

⛵️ Summer is almost here!

Over the weekend, an amazing group of volunteers came together for some spring cleaning and prep work to get everything ready for another incredible season of Junior Sailing. Docks were installed, boats were rigged, gear was organized, and the sailing spaces were cleaned and refreshed — all in anticipation of a fun-filled summer on the water.

We can’t wait to welcome sailors back for a season of learning, adventure, teamwork, and friendship! ☀️🌊
