EXCUSE US… BUT HAVE YOU SEEN ?! ✨

Because this girl is ABSOLUTELY STUNNING. 😍😍😍

Seriously, looks like she should be living her best life stretched across somebody’s couch, being told how beautiful she is approximately 47 times a day. Instead, she’s still sitting at the shelter wondering why nobody has scooped her up yet. 💅🏼😂

And trust us… she knows she’s pretty.

Now, because we want Talula’s next home to be her FOREVER home, we want to share something we’ve noticed. We actually feel Talula is probably dog friendly, but when she was around another dog, we did notice some resource guarding. Rather than place her with another dog and take the chance of it becoming an issue in the home, we would much rather set her up for success from the beginning.

So for Talula, we’re looking for a home where she can be the ONLY DOG. ❤️ Not because we think she hates other dogs ,we don’t.
We simply think Talula will thrive when she doesn’t have to worry about sharing her food, toys, goodies or her people.

And quite frankly, Miss Talula has reviewed these terms and finds them perfectly acceptable. 😂

🐱 Cats? We would be happy to cat test her for a serious applicant.
👧 Children? We feel Talula could do well with older, respectful kids.

We’re not looking to simply get Talula out of the shelter. We want to get her into the RIGHT home so she doesn’t have to come back. That matters more than anything.

So if you’ve been looking for one absolutely gorgeous girl to spoil rotten, love endlessly and make the center of your world…

Talula is accepting applications. 💅🏼🏡❤️

No situationships. No casual dating. She wants the house key, the couch and a lifetime commitment. 😂

Applications are available through the link in the comments. Please allow our volunteer adoption team 24–48 hours to review your application and reach out to schedule a meet.

🐾💙 AUGUST ADOPTIONS THIS IS WHY WE DO IT. 💙🐾

There can be a lot of noise surrounding animal rescue.

There are opinions.
There is criticism.
There are negative posts.
And yes, it sometimes feels like The Healthy Hearts and Paws Project is constantly on the chopping block.

We will be the first to tell you, we are not perfect.
We have never claimed to be. We are human beings and volunteers doing our very best in an incredibly difficult world where the decisions aren’t always easy and emotions run high.

But today, we want to turn down all that noise and show you what all of this is actually about.

These faces.
These families.
These happily-ever-afters. ❤️

💓Our August adoptions💓
Every single dog in these photos once slept in a kennel waiting for someone to choose them.
And one of them waited longer than almost anyone.

🥹 WENT HOME.
Murdoch had been with us since 2021.

Yes. 2021.

For years, we waited with him.
There may have been people who wondered why he was still here.
There may have been criticism about why certain dogs stay as long as they do or why we are so careful about where some of them go.

The answer is simple:

Because our responsibility isn’t just to get a dog OUT of the shelter. Our responsibility is to do everything we can to help that dog STAY out of the shelter.

We know these dogs. We know their quirks, their fears, their strengths, their challenges and what they need to succeed. Sometimes finding the right home takes longer than any of us wish it would.

Murdoch is proof that long doesn’t mean never.
It took years.

But today?
Murdoch isn’t sleeping in a kennel anymore. He is HOME. ❤️
And THAT is why we keep showing up.

That’s why volunteers walk through these doors every day. That’s why kennels get cleaned again and again. That’s why dogs get walked, loved on, photographed, posted and reposted. That’s why someone sits beside the scared dog. That’s why we celebrate tiny victories nobody else sees. That’s why our adoption team spends countless hours reviewing applications, answering questions and arranging meet and greets.

Not for praise.

For this.
For the moment a kennel becomes empty because the dog who lived there finally has a family.

A huge thank you to Jason Cooke and our incredible adoption team for everything that happens behind the scenes to make these matches possible.

And to our volunteers, the heart and soul of The Healthy Hearts and Paws Project,
thank you for continuing to show up for these animals. Through the good days, the hard days, the criticism, the heartbreak and the celebrations.

Most importantly, thank you to every single family who chose adoption in August.
You didn’t just adopt a dog.
You changed that dog’s entire world. 🐾❤️

And to our community: every share, donation, kind word and adoption post you pass along matters more than you realize.

There will always be negativity.
But there is SO MUCH GOOD happening here, too.
Today, we’re choosing to celebrate the good.

🎉 CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR AUGUST ADOPTIONS! 🎉

May your couches be covered in dog hair, your phones be filled with ridiculous pictures, your floors be covered in toys and your homes be filled with more love than you ever imagined. ❤️🐾

And Murdoch…

After all those years, buddy, you finally made it.

Go enjoy your home. You’ve waited long enough. 🥹💙

🐾 A NOTE TO OUR NEW ADOPTERS: PLEASE REMEMBER THE 3-3-3 RULE

🖤 3 DAYS: Your new dog may feel overwhelmed, nervous or unsure. They may sleep more, eat less or behave differently than they did at the shelter. Keep things calm and give them space to decompress.

🖤 3 WEEKS: They’re beginning to understand the routine and realize this might actually be home. Their personality—and sometimes a few new behaviors!—may begin to appear.

🖤 3 MONTHS: Trust and security continue to grow. Your dog understands the household, has built a relationship with you and is beginning to truly feel like they belong.

The 3-3-3 Rule is a guideline, not a deadline. Some dogs need less time. Some need much more.

Give them patience. Give them structure. Give them grace.

They’ve already made one enormous transition. Now give them time to understand that they’re finally home. ❤️

Thank you for choosing adoption and giving these animals the lives they’ve always deserved.

☁️ CLOUD HAS ENTERED THE DATING SCENE ☁️

🦴Name:
🦴Breed: Pomeranian
🦴Age: A gentleman never reveals his age—and honestly, none of us know it either. 😂
🦴Relationship status: Abandoned, available, and ready for an upgrade
🦴Height: Travel-sized
🦴Hair: Naturally voluminous
🦴Personality: Fluffy, fabulous, and mildly judgmental

🦴About me:
They call me Cloud because I’m white, fluffy, and sometimes bring a little thunder. I was sadly found abandoned, so my past is a mystery—but I’m officially ready to leave that chapter behind and find someone worthy of sharing my future.

I recently went on two practice dates with volunteers. One apparently failed my initial vibe check. She said I was a jerk, while my other date , had the absolute best time with me! What can I say?
I have standards.
I’m not difficult, I’m selective. 😂

My ideal match:
Someone who appreciates a handsome Pomeranian with luxurious hair, strong opinions, and the confidence to judge you silently from across the room. You must be willing to provide snacks, affection, and regular compliments about how breathtakingly fluffy I am.

My love language:
Quality time, treats, and deciding for myself when we’ve reached the touching stage of our relationship.

Biggest red flag:
I may look at you like I’ve uncovered something troubling in your background check.

Biggest green flag:
If I choose you, you’ll know it’s real—because Cloud does not hand out five-star reviews to just anybody. ☁️⭐️

Think you have what it takes to win over this tiny mystery man? Submit your application and come meet Cloud. It could be love at first sight…or you may be asked to return for a second interview. 😂

The application link is in the comments. Please allow our volunteer adoption team 24–48 hours to review applications and reach out to schedule a meet and greet. **Please do not message the page to check your application status

Cancer-stricken is recovering at The Healthy Hearts and Paws Project animal complex in Warren, OH, after being involved in an altercation with another dog while in foster care.

He suffered multiple wounds to both of his front legs and is currently under the care of a veterinarian.

The foster's dog was also injured in the altercation and appears to be recovering as well.

The Healthy Hearts and Paws Project is transparent with potential fosters and adopters regarding dogs' known medical and behavioral histories, and maintains communication with fosters and adopters to ensure that protocols and procedures established prior to the dog entering their home are being followed.

Unfortunately, interactions between animals can be unpredictable, and even when appropriate precautions, supervision, and protocols are in place, an unexpected altercation can occur. No one can predict every interaction or reaction between animals in every circumstance. Our focus at this time is on the health and recovery of both dogs, and we are grateful that they are receiving the veterinary care they need.

❤️🐾 REPOSTING & … because these girls deserve to finally go HOME. 🐾❤️

I spend a lot of time with these two, and the more time I spend with them, the more I just want someone else to see what I see.

Precious (Blue eyes) and Muffin have SO much love to give. And yes, we know asking someone to adopt two dogs instead of one is a big ask. But these aren’t just two dogs who happen to share a kennel.

Precious is Muffin’s mama. ❤️

Once you know that, their whole relationship makes sense. Precious is the calmer one. She sits back and watches Muffin carry on and be her silly, happy-go-lucky self with this look like, “Yep… that’s my girl.” 😂 You can tell Mama is always keeping an eye on her.

And Muffin wakes up ready for LIFE.

What are we doing today?! Where are we going?! Can I come?! 😂 She is just happy to be included in absolutely anything.

But Muffin has this incredibly soft side that gets me every single time. When I put the girls back into their kennel for breakfast, she turns around and gives me the tiniest, softest little boop kiss before she goes in. 🥹❤️ It’s such a tiny thing, but it’s one of those shelter moments that sticks with you.

These girls are so affectionate and so happy once they’re outside of their kennel. They keep their kennel clean, they’re easy to handle, and I can leash both of them and walk them together without a problem.

They genuinely love each other. One follows the other’s lead, they keep each other company, and even though there are two of them, they really are incredibly easy dogs to care for.

They’ve spent enough time sharing a kennel. Even a bigger kennel is still a kennel. They need a couch. A yard. Someone to come home to. They need to know what it feels like when that kennel door opens and they don’t have to go back inside. 💔

🐾 No cats for these girls.
🐾 They may be willing to share their home with a nice, calm resident dog who isn’t too hyper, with a proper meet and greet.
🐾 A securely fenced yard would be ideal, as we were told they had a history of being little escape artists in their previous home.
🐾 They could potentially do very well with respectful children, with an appropriate meet.

We know two dogs are a bigger commitment.
We do.
But if you’ve ever considered opening your home to a pair, please come meet Precious and her baby girl Muffin.

Maybe you’ll see exactly what we see. ❤️

We just want these two to finally hear the words we’ve been waiting to say to them:

“Come on, girls. You’re going HOME.” 🏡🐶🐶❤️

💙 HERE WE GO AGAIN… POSTING FOR RIO. 💙

And you know what? We’re going to KEEP posting him.

Because I’m rooting for . 🥹🐾

Rio is clearly one of our overlooked dogs. He watches other dogs get noticed, get their meets, and get their families…and somehow, Rio is still here.

Is he perfect?
Nope.
He’s STRONG on a leash.
He needs some manners. He gets wound up and a little nutty sometimes, but after spending this much time living in a shelter, surrounded by barking dogs, constant activity and people coming and going, we have to wonder how much of what we’re seeing is simply shelter stress.

Because when you give Rio something he LOVES, you see a completely different dog.

Put this boy in a play yard with some toys and watch him light up. 🥎 Give him a swimming pool and you have officially made his entire day. 💦😂 He LOVES to play. He loves being outside. He would make such a fun hiking and adventure companion, and underneath all that big goofy energy is actually a very sweet, loving dog.
❤️
We’ve also been carefully walking him past some of our calmer dogs, and Rio certainly seems interested in playing. We have not done an official dog-to-dog meet yet, so we don’t want to make promises we can’t make. But so far, dogs who match his energy, or have a calmer energy,
don’t seem to bother him at all. Any potential canine sibling would, of course, require a proper resident-dog meet.

Rio needs someone willing to look beyond the kennel.

Someone who understands that the dog you meet after spending far too long in a shelter may not be the same dog you have curled up next to you three months later.

He needs exercise.
He needs consistency.
He needs some manners.
But more than anything…

RIO NEEDS A FRIEND. 💙

Someone to take him for walks. Someone to throw his toys. Someone to fill up that ridiculous little swimming pool. Someone to give him boundaries, teach him what life in a home looks like, and then let him finally exhale.

A foster home would be incredible for Rio, too. Even giving him a break from shelter life and allowing him to decompress could help us learn so much more about the dog underneath all this stress.

I’m rooting for this boy.

Rio deserves his chance to be seen.
Help us help Rio. 🙏💙

Even if he isn’t the dog for your family, PLEASE SHARE HIM. Somewhere out there is the person who is going to look at this goofy, strong, water-loving boy and say:

“That’s my dog.”

📸💋 POPPER… FIVE MONTHS?! HOW?! 💋📸

We picked for a little Photo Booth time, and let us tell you… this boy LOVES it. 😂❤️

The minute he gets out there with the volunteers, he’s happy. He’s silly.
He’s hamming it up for the camera.
And then the lips. 😂💋
How can you look at that face and not smile?!
Hims so silly

But here’s the part we really can’t believe…
Popper has been here going on FIVE MONTHS.

We truly never thought he would be here this long.
Popper came to us through absolutely no fault of his own. His person lost their housing and unfortunately had to surrender him. He went from having a home and a human of his own to suddenly having to figure out shelter life.

And he’s doing his best.

Popper is around 3 years old, neutered, housebroken, dog friendly, and just an all-around GOOD BOY. We were also told that he did well with children in his previous home.
For his next home, however, we’re asking for older, respectful children. Not because Popper doesn’t like kids , quite the opposite!
We think he’d LOVE having some kid humans to play with. ❤️ He’s just a solid, excited boy, and when he’s happy, sometimes that whole body gets involved. 😂 We want kids who are big enough to handle a little Popper enthusiasm without getting knocked over.

We want to set him up for SUCCESS.

Five months is long enough for a dog who already knows what it’s like to have a family.
He knows how to live in a home.
He knows how to love his people.
He gets along with other dogs.
He wants to be with you.
And apparently, he also knows how to work a camera. 📸😂

Please give Popper a chance. Come meet him, spend some time with him and see the sweet, silly boy the volunteers get to see every day.

Let’s get those Popper lips smiling from a couch instead of a shelter kennel. 🏡💋❤️
