Today is Matthew Shepard Remembrance day. On this day in 1998, Shepard died from injuries incurred during a hate crime against him. His death shocked the US and re-sparked debate on the treatment of the LGBTQIA+ community. His family would later create the Matthew Shepard Foundation (https://www.matthewshepard.org/) in his honor.
