Honoring Tradition at Yorktown National Cemetery

On 29 May 2026, DAV 13 team met with Colonial National Historical Park point of contact Josephine Rozner to support preparations for this year’s Decoration Day celebration. As the Community Volunteer Ambassador, Josephine organized a dedicated group of volunteers—including DAV representatives Terry Bohlinger, Jackie Beal, Theron McClinton, Stacy Mitchell, Joe Washington, and Pete Gibino—to assemble luminarias for placement throughout Yorktown National Cemetery.

More than 2,000 soldiers and civilians rest at the cemetery, and the luminaria tradition—originating in Spanish villages over 300 years ago—offered a meaningful way to honor their memory. Volunteers worked seamlessly and with shared purpose, ensuring each burial site received a respectful tribute.

The following day’s Decoration Day events were a resounding success. DAV team members expressed pride in their contribution and enthusiasm to support future commemorations
