This is some of the damage that was uncovered by the teams performing damage assessment today. We encourage everyone to please complete this short survey (below) to help York County PA Office of Emergency Management gain a clearer picture of the damage!

This information will be used to help York County residents if funds become available, and help them recover. At minimum, it will help the US National Weather Service State College PA learn and improve for future weather events.

Free water and ice for Met-Ed customers without power

FirstEnergy, Met-Ed's parent corporation, is providing free water and ice to its customers who remain without power following the recent storms.

Customers can pick up water and ice available at several Giant locations listed below while supplies last.

"Full restoration could take up to Wednesday for some customers.
Approx. 222K of 1.2M customers experienced outages since Friday.
105,433 customers currently w/o power
Harrisburg, Lancaster and Poconos hardest hit
Is in the top 10 of worst storm (damage) experienced
Canada, Rhode Island and Kentucky partners are assisting (some still enroute)
Waived their 24-hr outage requirement for reimbursement program (due to extreme heat) – see previous email or check our Social Media pages
Providing updates on website and SM
Customers that have opted-in will get restoration times through various channels (text, phone, email)
Customers can download the PPL app for reporting outages and receiving updates

Yesterday’s storm recorded 40 – 65 mph and in some cases, higher wind gusts
This storm
Added an additional 125K customer outages (in additional Friday’s storm-generated outages)
>2300 damages to PPL system
Affected entire service area (29 counties)
Smart grid system completed an auto restore to more than 2500 customers yesterday
Difficulties
Blocked roads
In some cases, PPL needs to ‘build’ some infrastructure that was terminally damaged
>1K field workers deployed, operating on 24/7 continuous service
Staging sites established in hardest hit areas – serves as ‘check in’ for incoming workers

PPL reimbursement for ice and water

Customers who have been without power as a result of the storms can now purchase ice and water from any local vendor and send us the receipts. If you send us your receipts, we’ll credit your account.

Each customer can purchase a maximum of three 10-pound bags of ice and three gallons of water per day. Additional purchases will not be eligible for an account credit.
