Through his work with York County Jewish History, Lou Lavetan was recently contacted by Evie, the younger sister of his late cousin, Shelly Lipsitz, who shared these incredible family treasures.

Grateful to Evie and Phil for helping preserve and pass along these meaningful pieces of history.

Lou Lavetan was invited by Rabbi Davis of Temple Beth Israel to speak at the Dallastown Area Clergy Association gathering.

During the presentation, Lou highlighted Rabbi Goode's impact on the York community and the connections between the Jewish community, other faith communities, and organizations such as the Boy Scouts.

It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with clergy representing many different faith traditions.

May 10, 1911, marks the birth of Rabbi Goode, a life that continues to impact our community in meaningful ways.

Known for his quiet courage and selflessness, he gave up his life vest during the sinking of the USAT Dorchester so others could survive.

He also played a role in establishing one of the first non-denominational, inter-racial Boy Scout troops, helping create a community rooted in inclusion and shared purpose.

Today, we pause to remember and honor his legacy.
