A MESSAGE FROM THE POST COMMANDER
Important Update Regarding Skill Game Machines
Dear Legion Family,
It is with disappointment and frustration that we must announce the removal of the skill game machines from Shiloh American Legion Post 791, on Monday the 12th in order to be in compliance with the ruling effective October 14,2026 making them illegal.
As many of you are aware, the recent Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruling and the rejection of a petition requesting an extension until February have left organizations like ours facing a difficult situation. The requested extension would have provided additional time for state lawmakers to consider and potentially pass legislation establishing a legal framework for these machines.
Unfortunately, that additional time has not been granted, and we must take the necessary steps to ensure our Post remains in compliance with the law.
This decision is not one that our Post leadership wanted to make. Skill games have provided entertainment for our members while also generating revenue that helps support our Post’s operations, programs, charitable contributions, and commitment to our veterans and community.
We recognize that their removal will have a financial impact, not only on our Post but also on many American Legions, VFWs, and other veterans’ and community organizations throughout Pennsylvania.
While we are disappointed in this outcome, we want to reassure our members that Shiloh American Legion Post 791 is not going anywhere.
Our Post has always been about much more than gaming machines or the activities in our canteen. We are a Legion Family built on service, camaraderie, friendship, and a shared commitment to our veterans, their families, and our community.
Now, more than ever, we need our Legion Family to come together. Continue supporting our Post by attending events, enjoying our kitchen and canteen, volunteering, and participating in the many activities that make Post 791 such a special place.
As our National Commander’s message reminds us, BPOTS — Be Part of the Solution!
We will continue to monitor legislative developments and remain hopeful that Pennsylvania lawmakers will find a reasonable solution that recognizes the important role these games have played in supporting nonprofit veterans’ organizations.
Thank you for your understanding, continued loyalty, and support. Together, we will navigate this challenge and keep Post 791 strong.
For God and Country,
Bill McCauley
Post Commander
