The York Twinning Association is an independent organization dedicated to international friendship. The association was founded in 1954 when the cities of York and Arles, France, were joined in a formal sister-city program. The twinning was the second in the wold and the first involving an American city. Today York-Arles is the worldโ€™s oldest continuous sister-city program. Since so many Pennsylva

nians have their roots in German, members of the Twinning Association worked to establish a twinning with a German town. Through help of Sister Cities International, a twinning was formed with Leinfelden-Echterdingen, a town about the size of York near Stuttgart in southwestern Germany. The first exchange, by a group from York who went to L/E, happened in 1984. From this exchange an every 4 year group visitation plan was established and now a lively relationship flourishes. The York Twinning Association has also established a yearly student
exchange program from local high schools with Arles and Leinfelden-Echterdingen. Funds raised by the association are used for student scholarships and other exchange activities. We are always looking to establish new Twinnings throughout the world and will continue to foster new friendships internationally. YTAโ€™s board co-president, Betty Stein, is taking some time to relax and connect to nature and do some gardening after successfully producing and mailing out postcards reminders to YTA members and supporters. Thanks Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield for the wellness reminder.

Please donate to YTA during (starting at 7pm, April 30th) to maximize our matching donor funds and help raise support for student and adult exchanges and events with people from York County and our sister cities Arles and Leinfelden-Echterdingen.
