Is Helfrich for the neighborhoods? Or is he just another downtown insider posing as a leader of the whole city, black brown and white? How does Helfrich find the time to attend a downtown ribbon cutting for a sandwich maker who moved to a larger Central market stall, but he did not find the time to attend the ribbon cutting for an authentic grass roots neighborhood opening of the Open Air Market orgaqnized by Latino neighborhood leader, Jesus Pena? Answer: Helfrich does not care about the majority of city residents outside downtown.

Jesus Pena brought together vendors and buyers from every city culture and of all ages and races for the Open Air Market last summer in Renaissance Park near Princess & Pine.
https://www.ydr.com/.../downtown-york.../5354663002/Pena Jesus Pena is a neighborhood barber who founded Better Future Now to help neighborhood entrepreneurs build their businesses. Helfrich's economic development team refused to acknowledge that this market and the work of Better Future Now is real city economic development. Helfrich's men gave zero support to this community Open Air Market. In fact, Helfrich's sidekick Philip Given tried to stop the opening 3 day before the opening. Lou Rivera stepped in and helped the Market stay on track to open. Helfrich continues to put up obstacles to this Market's opening this summer of 2021. Helfrich doesn't care aboput the neighborhoods but he talks a good game.

Shareef Hameed and I will be discussing life in the city of York PA USA at 8 PM UTC-5 (daylight savings) time. York is a city of great potential centered in its diversity. But for reasons we will discuss, this potential has not been fully accessed. This hour long interview can be seen on Shareef's page or on York Community TV https://www.wrct.tv/ Channel 16 and call-ins are welcome. FYI, the Facebook version https://www.facebook.com/shareef.hameed.18 of Shareef's show often goes into overtime.

As we contemplate a $54 million 121 room Yorktowne Hotel on the edge of the neighborhood this make a lot more sense.

Federal infrastructure spending is a huge, expensive gamble that we already know doesn’t pay off. Strong Towns' proposal for a path forward is cheap, and it offers high upside potential with low downside potential.

The Princess & Pine Infill Zoning District is a proposed demonstration project initiated by neighborhood residents, business people and property owners for the purpose of improving the neighborhood. We want our neighborhood to become a better place to live and work and to invest in for a self-sustainable future. Infill zones around the country have halted declining property values and created jobs. Current York City Zoning excludes the possibility of an organically developed neighborhood commercial center. The "Commercial only at the corners of city blocks" ensures York will never have anything like a Chinatown, Little Italy or other authentically unique part of the city.
Our goal is to celebrate diversity and street level prosperity in a livable urban environment. In this Princess & Pine Infill concept the "infill" is more focused on infilling new more diverse uses than on infilling buildings. The lines on the map indicating uses are conceptual, not final and the proposed Infill District boundaries are subject to refinement. If you would like to join in this effort to demonstrate that a York neighborhood can elevate its quality of life through shared goals and hopes, LIKE or FOLLOW this page.

Our Story

Princess & Pine is more a vision than a place. This vision is a new perspective on what a neighborhood can and will be. It is people working to get along and make a better place to live and work. Princess & Pine now is not a white, black of Hispanic neighborhood. It is truly mixed and always changing. This mixture can become a static division or a dynamic diversity capable of creating something authentically new and beautiful. If you can see the beauty or feel the authenticity, you are part of Princess and Pine. It's coming.
