Seacoast Community Chorus

Seacoast Community Chorus Seacoast Community Chorus is a non-auditioned mixed ensemble of about 45 adult singers. Wendell S. Purrington has been our conductor since 1993.

Seacoast Community Chorus was founded in 1971 to bring together interested people to sing Handel's Messiah. Over the years the chorus has expanded its repertoire to include works by Haydn, Mozart, Bach and Handel, as well as contemporary composers such as Leonard Bernstein, John Rutter, Randall Thompson and Daniel Pinkham. In his years at the baton he has striven to help each singer become the bes

t choral artist possible through vocal training, choosing challenging repertoires and-humor! Rehearsals are very focused and hard work, and contain many opportunities for friendship and laughter. Members of the chorus have had opportunities to sing on tour in Europe: in 2005 we presented music in Italy. In 2008 members of the chorus sang in Budapest, Vienna and Prague. In 2011, members of the chorus traveled to France and in 2014 toured in England.

Schwa (Ə): In singing and vocal performance, the schwa [ə] is a neutral, unstressed, and relaxed "uh" sound, often produced with a, tongue resting behind lower teeth, and a released, vertical jaw, allowing for efficient, natural phrasing. It is crucial for diction and vocal longevity, as it replaces tense, unstressed vowels in words like "sofa" or "angel".
