Our DAYBREAK: A Retreat on Mary's Hope retreat was amazing, and our hearts are full of gratitude for all that God did for us.

Our teens experienced powerful talks, meaningful discussions, beautiful prayer, the Sacraments, Adoration, fellowship, laughter, and plenty of fun along the way. Throughout the weekend, we reflected on Mary's unwavering hope and learned how to trust God even when life feels uncertain or difficult.

We are especially grateful for the openness of our teens, who engaged deeply in the discussions, encouraged one another, and helped create a community where authentic faith could flourish.

A special thank you to the staff and volunteers who gave so generously of their time and talents, and to the wonderful team at Camp Eder for their outstanding hospitality, beautiful facilities, and incredible food. They helped provide the perfect setting for a truly memorable retreat experience.

Please continue to pray for these young people as they return home carrying the hope, joy, and encouragement they received this weekend.

As we reflected throughout the retreat:

"The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." (John 1:5)

May we all continue to live as beacons of hope in a world that desperately needs the light of Christ.

IGNITE Year-End Finale is this Sunday, May 17th from 5–8pm in the SJY Youth Room!

Join us for an ENGULF Holy Hour Night with Eucharistic Adoration, Confessions, games, activities, dinner, snacks, and dessert as we close out an incredible school year together!

In a world full of noise and distractions, there is nothing more important than spending time with Jesus truly present in the Eucharist. Adoration and Confession are powerful opportunities for peace, healing, grace, and encountering Christ personally. We are encouraging every teen to prioritize this night!

This event is also especially meaningful because it will be my last regular Ignite event as the Youth Minister here at St. Joe’s East York. I would love to celebrate, pray, and close out the year together with all of you one last time.

Please RSVP to [email protected] so we can plan for food. We can’t wait to see you there!

What if hope is more than just wishful thinking?

This year’s high school retreat, DAYBREAK: A Retreat on Mary’s Hope, invites teens to encounter the God who brings light into every darkness.

Looking to Mary—from the Annunciation to the Cross to Pentecost—we’ll discover what it means to trust God even when life is uncertain, difficult, or painful. Mary reminds us that hope is not pretending everything is easy. Hope is believing that God is faithful.

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” — John 1:5

Join us for a weekend filled with:
🔥 Powerful talks
🙏 Mass, Adoration & Confession
🌅 Morning & Evening Prayer
💬 Small groups & authentic community
🧗 Challenge course & fun activities
🤍 Time for silence, reflection, and encounter with Christ

The Church calls Mary the Morning Star because she points us toward Jesus, the true dawn that overcomes every darkness.

Come encounter the hope that never fails.

After much prayer and discernment, I want to share that I will be stepping down from my role as Youth Minister at St. Joe’s East York, effective July 1st, as I transition into a new role as the parish’s Facilities Manager.

Serving the teens and families of Sparks and Ignite has been one of the greatest blessings of my life. I am incredibly grateful for the relationships built, the moments of encounter, and the ways God has worked through this ministry.

We still have some great things ahead to close out the year:
🔥 Sparks Year-End Finale – May 15 (6:30–8:30pm)
🔥 Ignite Year-End Finale – May 17 (5–8pm)
🔥 Summer Retreat – June 5–7 (my final event as Youth Minister)
-Sign up here: https://forms.gle/mArerYX8K2eHzeBk8

I’m committed to finishing strong and making these moments meaningful for our teens.

As we look ahead, updates about future Sparks and Ignite events will be shared once new leadership is in place. Please keep our parish and ministry in your prayers during this time of transition.

Thank you for being part of this mission. It has truly been an honor.
