“Experts agree that up to 80 percent of patient health is dictated by the social determinants of health, or the social factors that impact an individual’s ability to achieve wellness. Common social determinants of health include food or housing security, educational access, living environment, public safety, and racial or socioeconomic issues.”

A new partnership between the AMA and UnitedHealthcare will set out to develop ICD-10 codes that flat patients for the social determinants of health.
