Dr. Sue Crawford was our guest speaker (also a member) for Stephen Postier

She informed us of York Comprehensive Plan.
Go to website: planyork.com
A plan is done every 10-15 years which looks at; what's going on now, what do we want in the future & then how to get there. Have to follow state laws regarding rules & zoning.
Many engagement activities, under the Lincoln group RDG were done, including:
Monthly polling
Stakeholder group
Inactive map
Design workshops
Open house
Planning commission
City Council

Fact: we have 30,000 vehicles come through York per day!
44% of people commute in to work here
26% live here
30% go out of town to work

Milo Goff & Avery Blum of YC3

So Milo talked about the Youth Iniative - this was brought about because there is very little for our 6th - 12th grade kids.
YC3 has received a $10,000 grant for our youth (& surrounding towns)
A group of kids help plan, organize & host events. Ex: Easter time they had a Glow Hunt where the eggs contained many prizes including coupons to Wendy's, Freddy's, McDonald's, etc. We are so fortunate to have such giving businesses.
UNL Architecture is making plans to renovate the Skating Rink (just need investors/buyer)
They have an Instagram page

Bill Bolte (with Sue Crawford) is Director of York General Hospital Laboratory.
The lab has essential roles in providing care for our patients. Our medical staff need labs to help diagnose & treat.
Lab department provides 24/7 coverage
9 Board Certified Lab staff & 8 Phlebotomy/support staff.
Dr Woodward is their medical director.
Lots of advancements in Lab including now a High Sensitivity Troponin test from draw to results is 25 min to determine a heart attack.
Also new formulations od CEA, Parathyroid hormone & Hcg

I personally love our Lab staff, and I get copies of my results usually same day!

Education and Workforce Development at York General
What is it? YG is focusing on our community, our students in the community. Through many opportunities we look to serve & expand educational offerings within our setting and entice those interested to serve in our rural setting by:
Increased shadow experiences and offering internship & work study opportunities & resident rotations
Work with area high schools & education career classes to present CNA classes & opportunities to get in the door of healthcare while still in high school
KHOP & RHOP program participation (allows Pre-mec, Nursing, Pharmacy, Lab & other modalities to train in rural areas & then return to a rural area after graduation)
LB 227 shared clinical model participation (provides expansion of clinical training sites with lower # of RN's per capita)
Grant applications for high fidelity mannequins to immerse students in simulation & training opportunities as well as grow our own nursing staff through real world situations in simulation experiences.

*as a nurse myself having started as a nurse aid at Osceola Good Sam my JrSr years, then to Hearthstone in 1981, this is very exciting & needed at York General

A Trip to YES to see update on the remodel & new construction.

Also our microproject for month was to collect stuffed animals & blankets for kids that come to Brave Be (we have a satellite in York-main office in Lincoln)
I found these Warmies (see pic) @ Wagner Decorating (York) they are weighted & can be microwaved for warmth & lavender smell. How comforting for a child!
