York County Community Foundation

York County Community Foundation York County Community Foundation was founded in 1961 as a way to forever benefit our nonprofit community through endowment.

We create a vibrant York County by engaging donors, providing community leadership, and investing in high-impact initiatives while building endowment for future generations. It wasn't until 1991 that the Community Foundation made a real push to build its assets so that it could become the kind of leading organization it is today. Donors are the crux of our existence; they are the reason we have be

en so successful over the years. Today, thanks to encouragement from many community leaders, we have enhanced our focus to also include being more of a community leader and changemaker by working with our donors to build our Fund for York County, our most flexible discretionary fund. In 1961, the Community Foundation awarded 7 grants of $100 each to area nonprofits. Today our annual grantmaking has reached nearly $4.5 million. The Community Foundation grew rapidly beginning in 1991, when we set a goal of $5 million in endowment. The goal was reached in 1995, and since then, we have achieved assets of $125 million. The following donors contributed leadership gifts through two initiatives designed to preserve the future of the Community Foundation. Through our Revitalization and Growth Initiatives, we raised nearly $3 million to support operations. We thank our Founders and Sustainers for their support.

“Don’t you remember?”
“We already talked about this.”
“No, that’s not what happened.”

Sometimes we say things like this without realizing they can increase frustration, confusion, or anxiety for someone living with dementia.

The good news is that small changes in communication can make a big difference.

Join YCCF and Dementia Friendly York/Adams June 9th for a free, interactive Dementia Friends information session and learn simple, practical ways to better support people living with dementia and the families who care for them.

A more dementia-friendly York County can start with all of us 🕊

Some young families have a safety net.

Someone to teach them how credit works. Someone who can help with a car repair. Someone who will let them stay for awhile if rent becomes impossible.

But what happens when hard times come and there’s no one to call?

For Jennifer and Juan, a series of setbacks became a crisis. Unsafe housing. Job instability. A car that barely worked. Eventually, homelessness, living out of their car with two young children.

What changed their story was community.

Through Community Progress Council's Self-Sufficiency Program, supported in part by YCCF, the family found the kind of support many people rely on relatives for: coaching, stability, accountability, practical life skills, and people who refused to give up on them.

Today, they’re preparing to buy their first home.

Their story is a reminder that sometimes community has to become the safety net. And when it does, families can move from surviving to building a future.

Read their story:

For Jennifer and Juan, daily life once revolved around perseverance rather than planning. Housing was unstable and often unsafe. After time in a shelter, the family moved into an apartment where safety became their primary concern. Rodents infested the kitchen, the stove caught fire, and cooking mea...

Scholarship season is one of our favorite times of year 🎓✨

Our Development team has been traveling all across York County to celebrate students receiving scholarships through YCCF funds. It’s been an honor to recognize the hard work, leadership, and bright futures of these incredible scholars.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, YCCF helps distribute more than $600,000 in scholarships every year to support students as they pursue college, career training, and other future goals.

Congratulations to every scholarship recipient. Remember as you turn your tassels and begin your next chapters: your community is cheering you on, and we can’t wait to see what you achieve next 🙌

When Office of the First Lady of Pennsylvania Lori Shapiro wants to learn what an age-friendly community looks like, York County has some great examples to share 🫶

This week, we were proud to arrange a visit with longtime YCCF grantee and collaborator Servants, Inc. as part of the First Lady’s interest in the work happening through our Age Friendly York County initiative.

During the visit, Servants, Inc. helped a Dover homeowner by installing a stable front porch so she can continue to navigate her home independently while using a walker, one of the many ways the organization helps older adults remain safely and comfortably in the homes they love.

We were delighted to share with the First Lady how this project — and many others like it — fit into our broader commitment to making York County a community that works for people of all ages.

Learn more about Servants, Inc. and their Home Helps program through the video and article below.

🎆 Welcome aboard to our new board!

At YCCF's May 7th Annual Meeting, outgoing Board Chair Harold Myers passed the torch to Michael Glezer, CEO of Wagman Inc., and we proudly introduced new member Julia Parrish. We also honored longtime board member Tim Warfield for nine years of dedicated service.

The future of community philanthropy might be changing hands, but we know it's still in good ones.
