If you would like to host a sew at your Community Center, church or library, please let me know. I would like to move the meetings around our grwater area so more sewers can join us. We can always go to my community center in York, but variety is a great way to grow our group. We may be getting to a point where we do two group sews a month! Thank you to everyone who has delivered or mailed dresses, skirts, hats, receiving blankets, shorts, flat dolls, and menstrual kit components at Sanford Sewing, Mainely Mimi, Seacoast Sewing and Quilting, and my front porch. The response has been incredible! My spare bedroom, front hallway, living room, lanai, and dining room table are swamped! It may look messy, but it is wonderful. Please continue to drop off completed items. I sort and pack daily. We will get as much as possible in the vehicle. I'll update on numbers after the vehicle departs. This effort is taking a giant step towards our 2025 goal of 2,500 dresses/skirts, 425 menstrual kits, 1,000 flat dolls, 550 baby hats, 400 receiving blankets, and as many shorts as possible for In Jesus's Name charity.

Cape Elizabeth United Methodist Church sewed and donated 396 dresses for Dress A Girl Northern New England this year. Here is their story:

CEUMC’s Dress-a-Girl 2025

Our Women in Faith and friends have been gathering at church on Saturdays since the beginning of February to create dresses for young girls living in poverty around the world as part of the international Dress a Girl Around the World mission.

The Cape women have completed 2,883 dresses since joining the Dress-a-Girl mission in 2016.

The goal for this year was to surpass 3,000, and with two Saturdays remaining, they already have completed 3,050 dress over the past 10 years.

Congratulations to all who continue to participate in this caring and necessary effort to help young girls who have virtually nothing.

Seacoast Sewing and Quilting in Portsmouth has Dress A Girl labels in stock. They are near the cash register. $3 for 25 and $6 for 50.

There is no monthly sew for October. Instead, many of us are going to the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary yard sale in Scarborough on Saturday. We will sew together again on November 2nd and December 7th in York. We are still collecting dresses, receiving blankets and hats for the final delivery to Vision International Missions before the end of October. We only need 452 dresses, 25 receiving blankets and 25 hats for VIM; an update of what's still needed will be posted this weekend. Overages will go towards one of our 2025 goals of 1,000 to 1,200 dresses for Project Kuthengetedza Zviwanikwa (Zimbabwe) with the first delivery to this charity by the end of 2024. Happy sewing!

Another amazing monthly sew. 66 👗s! By the end of this week, I will give an update on how many size 4, 6, 8 and 10 dresses we have made towards the goal of 452 for Vision International Missions.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 5th for Women's Auxiliary fabric+ yard sale, 10 to 2, Scarboro Lion's Club, 273 Gorham Road, Scarborough, ME. This is an outside event. There are lots of cottons and other dressmaking material. All are very reasonably priced. Non-profits will NOT be shopping for free at this event; we can only do that at the Spring sale. Enjoy shopping.

After In Jesus's Name goal is met, we still will be sewing dresses/skirts for other groups. Here is the list with remaining 2024 goals to be met.

Alas Para La Gente: 200 (delivery can be in early Jan so technically a 2025 goal)

In September, the board of directors will discuss our goals for 2025, then share with you for your input.
