The April STWG meeting will be tomorrow, April 23rd at 7 pm. The usual place at the Craft Guild. This month we’re doing something a little different.

Taking a small step away from traditional woodworking, and taking a look at other crafts and skills. This meeting will focus on leatherwork. Our guest will be David from Manual Madness Leather works. He’ll be discussing and demonstrating leather craft, and discussing how it relates to woodwork.

Please bring to show and tell any woodworking items that you have incorporated leather into design.

If you haven’t heard, STWG has a new home! We’re now meeting at the York Town Craft Guild, and we’re thrilled about the opportunities this new space provides—especially for more hands-on demonstrations. Since it’s an active crafting shop, a little sawdust and wood shavings are not only acceptable, they’re encouraged!

If you haven’t paid your 2026 dues, ($35), please do so this Thursday.

Shopsmith in Dayton, Ohio, manufacturers and distributors of multi-purpose woodworking tools and equipment, such as multi-function machines MARK 5 and MARK 7, suspended operations in late September 2025 and is currently seeking a new owner.

"After more than 70 years of serving makers, builders, and woodworking enthusiasts, Shopsmith has unfortunately reached the decision to suspend operations immediately," the company said on its website. "Unless new ownership emerges, this iconic American brand will soon be dissolved. Our lender is preparing to take possession of and liquidate the company’s assets – a move that would dismantle the brand and close a long chapter in American woodworking history. But it doesn’t have to end this way."

Our next meeting is Thursday October 23rd. The usual location at the church, at 7 pm. It’s the annual business meeting, so we’ve got some budget items to discuss and review.

After the business meeting, this would normally be followed by the guest speaker. However, we were unable to get someone this month. Therefore, the guest(s) will be us! We’re going to do an extended show and tell. Please bring along a project or tool.

The project can be old, new, in-progress, or whatever you would like to present. Doesn’t matter.

If your project is too large or inconvenient to move, take a few pictures, and we’ll do our best to show them on the TV.

It was a great day at New Freedom Fest. Special thanks to New Freedom Heritage for planning this wonderful event. The STWG performed lathe, hand tool, and spoon carving demo’s throughout the day. We were happy to see some friendly faces and also make some new acquaintances.

Over the last month our members prepared about 30 bluebird kits for a hands on children’s activity. Thanks to Drake Hardwoods for generously donating lumber for the birdhouses.

As a reminder our next monthly meeting is this Thursday 9/25. We hope you can join us.
