Within a short span of two weeks Westchester County, NY has experienced two tragic deaths in the county all at the hands of domestic violence. While we do not know the backstory of the two victims, if they have attempted to get help from the Police, Family Court or any other services, we do know one death is one too many, now there is two with injuries and trauma for the survivors. While we send prayers for the two victims and their familes, the conversation NEEDS to be had.
A few of us personally within our organization have experienced domestic violence with no recourse or protection when we tried to get help. Why weren't these women able to get help? How many victim's are there that we don't hear about? What is the plan to prevent this from happening again? What are the current policies and training in place, especially in The City of Yonkers where a few members of our organization and their children have been basically left to fend for themselves whether through the Yonkers Police Department, New York State Unified Court System, or CPS. WE NEED ACTION NOT REACTION. If you're not angry you should be! Take a stand against domestic violence. Call Westchester County District Attorney's Office at 914-995-3000 and let them know you want action not reaction- Keep our victims safe and abusers away! How many deaths do we have to have before accountability and protection?!
If you are experiencing domestic violence the National Domestic Violence Hotline is a good resource for getting help and is very discreet. Local organizations such as My Sisters' Place, Westchester, NY and Pace Women's Justice Center can help when 911 or Family Court won't.
Everything is preventable if intervention happens early enough.
Please donate if you can to the victims gofundme. Any bit helps:
