Yermo friends ❣️

We’ve worked hard to make sure the activities, games, crafts, and fun are ready for the kids at the Yermo Community Swap and Play Day on June 6th — now we just need a few helping hands to help bring it all to life.

This day is really about our little town.
A fun afternoon in the middle of summer where families can come out, laugh, play, meet neighbors, swap treasures, and make some good memories together.

We are looking for just 6 volunteers who can each give about ONE hour helping run:
🌵 a game booth
🎨 a craft/activity table
🎯 a midway game
💞or helping guide families and kids

No special experience needed. We’ll explain everything and keep it simple.

Even one hour helps more than you know.

Sometimes small towns don’t get many moments like this anymore — and we’d really love to give the kids a day that feels exciting, welcoming, and full of life.

🌿 Welcome to Calico Acres Ranch and The Outpost – The Heart of Serendipity6

Imagine a place where families can spend the day playing, learning, eating fresh food, and connecting — without breaking the bank. A place built from repurposed materials, powered by creativity, and rooted in community.

That’s The Outpost.

At the center is our **Market & Swap Meet** — the heartbeat of the park. Handmade goods. Fresh food. Leave-a-jacket, take-a-jacket. Skill sharing. Real connection.

From there, the adventure spreads out:

🎪 **Kid Village & Midway**
Carnival-style games, a play post office, pedal roads, a giant tree bookstore, and a kids’ Mart where tokens turn into treasures.

🌊 **The Oasis Playground**
Nature play, climbing rocks, loose parts, gem mining, and a pond for exploring. Hidden fairy villages. Dinosaur scenes. Sparkles tucked into garden paths for curious eyes.

🐐 **Animals & Farm Life**
Baby animal petting spots, goats and chickens being their hilarious selves, pig races at dinner time, horse trails around the perimeter, and cart rides through the park.

🌱 **Gardens That Feed Everything**
Our landscaping *is* our food system. The gardens feed the animals and supply our fresh restaurant — where kids and adults can learn real front-of-house and back-of-house skills.

🎭 **Outdoor Stage**
Tree stump seating, live shows, storytelling, talent nights, strawberry pink popcorn, lemonade stands — community gathering at its best.

⛺ **Cabins & Eco Miner Village**
Overnight camps. Life skills in action. Cleaning, cooking, caretaking, teamwork.
We’ll also create transitional pop-up housing where people can receive food, showers, medical support, and give back through meaningful tasks.

A spiritual space centered on care for the Earth, reflection, and shared values.

The entire Outpost carries a reclaimed, post-apocalyptic creativity vibe — built from surplus, salvaged, and repurposed materials — but the feeling is pure warmth. Togetherness. Ingenuity. Hope.

The S6 Community Gardens Ventures 🌿

♻️ A local Community Gardens project where we plant where we are with what we have.S6 Community Gardens Ventures 🌿 (S6CGV)

🌱 A mobile garden network growing food, connection, and community in Yermo.

🌰 The Serendipity6 Community Gardens Venture (S6CGV) is a community improvement project rooted in Yermo’s desert landscape and built for the people who live here. Many residents want to grow food but face limits like lack of space, water access, or reliable transportation. S6CGV removes those barriers through **portable container gardens** — easy-to-maintain food sources that can move where people are.

💦 Our first phase will launch **12 starter container garden kits** for participating households. Each kit includes containers, soil, seeds, and basic irrigation materials. Members will learn, grow, and share progress together through meet-ups at the **Yermo Community Exchange**, our central hub for:

* Seed swaps and seedling trades
* Gardening workshops and skill sharing
* Coordination of neighborhood beautification and pollinator garden projects

We also organize gardening workdays at members’ homes to help maintain and expand gardens, strengthening both the town’s appearance and its sense of community. This network approach allows everyone to participate — renters, seniors, families, and anyone who wants to help Yermo bloom again.

💛 S6CGV’s long-term goal is to create a sustainable, connected gardening culture in the high desert: one that grows food, teaches self-reliance, and nurtures the next generation of gardeners.

Should action come from individuals or from politicians?

Well...there’s a third option.

When we act as a communities we end up inspiring positive change in the individuals, households, schools and businesses around us. When we get together, we’re far more likely to influence local council and state government than when we act alone. And on a personal level, it’s so important to feel held and supported by a group of like-minded folk who keep us going even when it all feels like too much.

They say that when times get tough, people turn to the ideas that are already lying around. In covid times we saw people engaging with and relying on community gardens, food coops, homeschool groups and other community initiatives like never before. And right now times are tough for different reasons, so people are turning to what’s ‘lying around’ again.

Thanks for this quote from your excellent book ‘From what is to what if’, on how imagination can take us toward a sustainable way of living.

And tell us, are politicians acting quickly enough? Is it enough to work just on your own? Or have you found community to be the way forward?
