A fun political cartoon from one of our current jobs.

The bride was the daughter of an Ohio senator, and she set her wedding date for June 10th. Dad said, "Sorry, that's the date of the Ohio Republican Convention, so you'll have to move the wedding date." The bride says, "No, the date of the convention, not the wedding, will be moved". And it was! Hence the cartoon's subtitle, "Ohio's Real Boss"!

When asked about it, the bride said, "What's the point of being the daughter of a senator if you can't make things happen?!" She even managed to have President Roosevelt adjust his schedule so he could attend the wedding! I love this woman!

Our most recent research project. This beautiful brick, Federal style home was built in 1854 (right about the time the Village was incorporated). Over the years the property has been owned by numerous people including former Yellow Springs mayors, a Congressman and a Senator! This home has a great deal of history within its walls!

Today more than ever, Archivists matter. Our history matters. Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Now is the time to learn your history and preserve it for future generations.

The deletions began shortly after Donald Trump took office. C.D.C. web pages on vaccines, H.I.V. prevention, and reproductive health went missing. Findings on bird-flu transmission vanished minutes after they appeared. The Census Bureau’s public repository went offline, then returned without crucial directories of geographic information. The Department of Justice expunged the January 6th insurrection from its website, and WhiteHouse.gov took down an explainer page about the Constitution. More than 130,000 government pages have gone dark in a purge that one scientist likened to a “digital book burning,” and which has proved as frightening in its imprecision as in its malice.

But on this front, at least, the Trump Administration is facing well-organized resistance. It comes from a loose coalition of archivists and librarians who are assembling information arks to ride out the chaos. The Data Rescue Project, founded by a data librarian, now includes more than 400 volunteer backups of government repositories, from the C.F.P.B.’s Consumer Complaint Database to the C.D.C.’s National Immunization Survey. I delivered a house history to my first client today. The most surprising thing that I found was that Antioch College had their own "home kits" and there was even a model home located in Xenia. Antioch took care of the process from start to finish when a house kit was ordered. A good deal of the construction crew was made up of Antioch students fulfilling their co-op requirements. Who knew that Yellow Springs had their own version of the "Sears & Roebuck" home kits?
