Just want to give everyone a heads up of possible severe weather through out the night to noon tomorrow!! Keep an eye on the news and have ways of receiving weather alerts!!

A supercell is a special kind of thunderstorm that has a deep, persistently rotating updraft. These are the most intense storms and are responsible for almost all major tornadoes and giant hail, although l do not see hail as much of a threat tonight. This map is for midnight.

The blue and yellow-orange sections over Alabama and Georgia show where all three ingredients are overlapping perfectly for supercells to form.
Yellow/Orange: These are the "hot spots." It means the atmosphere is very favorable for storms to start spinning like tops if they happen to form in those counties. I frequently used this model exactly to show you where the "danger zones" are for the most powerful types of storms to develop. In this case, the focus is heavily on middle Georgia, including the far southwest metro counties

This is just a reminder that starting today May 1,2026 we are under the EPD burning restrictions until October 1, 2026 for outside burning.

‼️‼️CAUTION‼️‼️

Please use extreme caution when doing any outdoor burning at this time. We are under a drought and South Georgia and North Florida are fighting large wild fires. Until fires are contained, we could start seeing drift smoke which at some points could be heavy.

Georgia is expected to have potential severe weather overnight into the morning. We are asking for everyone to stay weather aware!

Make sure you have a way to receive weather alerts, check all flashlights, have an emergency plan in place along with a safe spot if needed.

Please DO NOT call 911 for weather updates or power outages unless you see a down power line. These lines need to stay open for emergencies. Stay off the roads unless it is an emergency!

⚠️ Winter Storm Potential ⚠️ - 1/15/2026 12PM Update
We are monitoring the potential for a winter storm across portions of the Southeast US (including Georgia) from Saturday night through Sunday. There is a growing chance (15-30%) for snow of a 1/2" or more in parts of the area. Confidence is VERY LOW in the forecast, but residents of GA should at least anticipate the possibility for travel impacts on Sunday. Potential outcomes from this system range from no snow or impacts, to widespread snow with significant impacts. Please stay tuned for more updates, and only follow trusted sources of weather information!

It wasn’t a typical Christmas Day with a brand new puppy for a Yatesville family when their new puppy went missing. Sweet 10 week old Cassie was wondering around her new yard when all of a sudden she was no where to be found. The family searched the yard and the neighborhood with no luck and eventually heard Cassie whining. They went outside to find her under the house down in a 25 to 30 foot old hand dug well that the family was not aware of being under the house.

Cassie’s owners immediately called Yatesville Fire Department Fire Chief who then notified 911. Yatesville Fire Department was dispatched to help rescue the puppy. The Fire Department arrived on scene, quickly made a plan and Cassie was rescued by Yatesville Fire Department with the assistance of Upson County Rescue in under an hour.

Cassie was reunited with her family, so very happy that she could not stop shaking her tail and was immediately given a bath.
