Our annual 5k Any Way & Color Fun Run for Accessibility is in just under three weeks on October 11th! Join us as a runner, walker, or rollers ("any way" you prefer). The event helps to support Lower Makefield Parks and Recreation in the continued goal to make all our community parks better accessible to all citizens.

Grab your family, friends and neighbors and support this great cause with a colorful blend of fun and activity! You can run, walk or roll the 5K for time and prizes, or participate in either the 5K Color Fun Run or 1 Mile Color Fun Run. Kids 5 and under are free! During your race pass through Color Zones and get showered with vibrant colors. To top it off it all ends with a Color Celebration when participants who wish gather together and throw even more color into the air!

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝘂𝘇𝘇 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗕𝗲𝗲𝘀: 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗹

An astonishing one of every three bites of food comes to us from insect pollinators like bees, beetles and butterflies. Yet these lifegiving insects are threatened from a variety of issues, from climate change to next-gen pesticides. In a colorful illustrated lecture, writer-naturalist Mike Weilbacher introduces you to many of these amazing creatures up close, shares their extraordinary life histories, and importantly, provides the buzz on the many ways you can help preserve our imperiled pollinators.

The author of “Wild Philly: Explore the Amazing Nature In and Around Philadelphia,” Mike travels the region offering lectures and walks on everything from climate change in Philadelphia to microplastics to the healing power of nature. His programs have reached 4,000 people in just the last three years, and this is his fifth lecture for Lower Makefield’s Environmental Advisory Council, having previously talked about microplastics, climate change, and even the strange s*x lives of many animals in nature. He’ll sell and sign copies of “Wild Philly" after the lecture.

MultiSport Tots Ages 2-3 is from 9:30am to 10:10am
MultiSport Tots Ages 3-4 is from 10:20am - 11:00am
Volleyball Class (Age 7-10) is from 11:15am - 12:15pm
Volleyball Class (Age 11 - 14) is from 12:25pm - 1:25pm

Classes take place at Memorial Park and we hope to see you there!

The Friends of Five Mile Woods will be hosting a Fall Open House on Sunday, September 20, from noon until 4:00 PM, at Lower Makefield Township’s Five Mile Woods Preserve. The Preserve headquarters will be open with nature artifacts and animals on display. Guided nature tours will be offered as needed/as guides are available until 3:30 p.m. Nature tour participants will experience signs of fall and learn about plants and animals that make Five Mile Woods their home. All ages are welcome! Stroll on our new 800-foot accessible boardwalk that passes through a wildflower meadow, woodlands and wetlands. Other walking is on trails with uneven surfaces. Please wear sturdy walking shoes that can get muddy.

Five Mile Woods is a 300-acre nature preserve managed by and located in Lower Makefield Township. It is primarily wooded and is bisected by the Fall Line, where the Atlantic Coastal Plain and Piedmont regions meet. The Preserve gives residents a chance to connect with nature close to home and is open from dawn to dusk. Visitors should anticipate rules consistent with a nature preserve: Any form of collection, pets and bikes are prohibited within the Preserve.

Tours will begin at the Preserve Headquarters, 1305 Big Oak Road in Lower Makefield Township (near the Kohl’s shopping center). Contact Preserve Naturalist John Heilferty at [email protected] with questions.

Youth Fitness classes in Lower Makefield are beginning this week and next! Don't miss your opportunity to enroll your child into a class to learn new skills.

Options include toddler sports programs in soccer and multi sport tots, elementary programs in art, chess, volleyball, and sockey, and middle schoolers have options for cartooning, chess and volleyball!

Some begin this weekend and others begin next week as after school programs. Don't wait!
