The Heating Fund We are a nonprofit organization aimed at helping the people in the Yale community stay warm.

Larry and Sheryl Carter have always had a passion for helping others. After moving to the Yale area in 2005 from Eastpointe, MI, they became more involved in the community through their business, Carter Mechanical Heating and Cooling, which they established in 2003 and brought to Yale, MI in 2015 after acquiring Kulek Heating and Cooling. Over the years, Larry and Sheryl encountered many local res

idents struggling to afford heating and hot water, particularly those using propane, as most assistance programs primarily support natural gas customers. Realizing the extent of the need, they began personally covering costs for some families but soon recognized that they couldn't meet the demand alone. In 2023, they founded The Heating Fund, a nonprofit aimed at providing support for low-income residents in the Yale School District. This initiative relies entirely on donations, and the Carters are actively fundraising to help residents in need during the upcoming heating season. Their goal is to expand assistance as the charity grows, ensuring that more community members can access the help they require. Donations to The Heating Fund are greatly appreciated and will make a significant difference in the lives of those in need within the community.

This week, we had the privilege of helping a single parent restore heat to their home during a very stressful time.

After their furnace stopped working, Carter Mechanical inspected the system and determined that it was beyond repair. With every financial option exhausted, it seemed there was nowhere left to turn.

That's when The Heating Fund stepped in.

After completing the qualification process, the family was approved for assistance, and a brand-new furnace was installed—bringing warmth, comfort, and peace of mind back into their home.

Seeing the tears of relief and gratitude reminded us exactly why The Heating Fund exists. Every donation, every fundraiser, and every act of generosity helps families in our community when they need it most.

Sometimes, a simple repair can mean everything.

We’re grateful to share that The Heating Fund was able to help a senior citizen in our community who was facing a difficult situation. Their heat exchanger had failed, leaving them without reliable heat—and the cost of repair was simply out of reach.

Thanks to the support of The Heating Fund, we were able to step in and replace the heat exchanger, restoring warmth, comfort, and peace of mind to their home.

This is what community is all about—neighbors helping neighbors when it matters most. ❤️
