🚨S.O.S. FUNDRAISER FOR Kanda Farm Sanctuary 🚨

Friends- one of our dearest friends is facing a massive bill for her best pig friend. If you follow Kanda- you know how much Moz has been through over the last year, and she is now back at the hospital looking for answers. While we may be in need of donations, we whole heartedly believe in supporting those who bust their asses every day with the pigs best interest at heart- never putting their ego or own personal needs first, and Kanda is one of those places. They’ve spent tens of thousands of dollars for Moz, and they’re not giving up on getting her better. Please go to their page and see Kate’s tear filled plea- it’s so hard to get our posts seen as sanctuaries, and we must work together.

Moz needs help- and the Absolute last thing you want to have to worry about while just trying to save a life is the bills. And I’ve been piling our things for our auction for our vet fund- but I KNOW how hard it is in the moment to try to do this and we want to help.

SO- we are doing an emergency 24 hour auction to try to help Kanda with their anticipated $4,000 bill.

Good morning, friends ☀️

Firstly I want to thank you all for your kind words for sweet little Marla. I am so heartbroken we couldn’t save her, but so very grateful she got a chance to feel love before passing. I think her poor little body fought for so long, that she finally felt safe enough to just “rest.”

And because so many of you also knew her life was worthy of dignity and respect, your donations covered her emergency bill, and we will be able to have her cremated and brought home, because you all felt she deserved that. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. You covered it all, without about $30 to spare, so we will put that towards vaccinating our other newest kitten addition Margot as soon as she’s ready. You guys truly are amazing 🩷

I also want to give some recognition to Wilbur. He may look big and burly, but he’s such a sweet soul, and immediately alerted me that something was wrong by making noise with his pool for me to find Marla. Without him, I may not have seen her in time, since I had just been back there doing his waters. Thank you, Wilbur. You’re a good boy.

In other updates, because I know you all worry about me as well- It’s been a tough week +. As you know we had our trip to Florida to take Frankie and Grace to their home scheduled for leaving yesterday. However, a week and a half ago- the ac in the bus went out and we needed spark plugs . I spent all of last week dealing with four different mechanics until finally getting the front ac and spark plugs fixed, only to find out that the parts we need for the rear ac (the most important part where the pigs are) are still over a week out. So, our trip has been postponed until we can get those.

Simultaneously our truck is about to go to the mechanic for new plugs and coils as well. To say it’s been a costly week is an understatement; but we rely heavily on both these vehicles, and not fixing them is not an options. We spent $2300 so far on the bus, the rear ac repair will cost another $2000, and the truck will probably be another $700 or so. These vehicles are our lifeline. The bus moves our smaller animals and only our truck can pull our trailer.

💔 Run free, Little Marla 🌈

Sometimes the most serendipitous yet tragic timing of things happen when you really least expect it. Today was one of those days.

I arrived home a few hours ago and immediately started doing another round of waters. I was in the special needs area, almost completely finished when I heard a thud, and Wilbur rustling around out back. He was still in bed 5 min prior. I went back to see what was going on, when I saw him behind his pool trying to get my attention to see this teeny tiny kitten who’d collapsed over the side of the pool looking for water. I scooped her up and her poor body was limp. She was maybe 1-2 lbs max, and her eyes were glazed over. She was fully covered in ticks.

I grabbed my keys, and we rushed to the vet. She was barely hanging on the whole trip. But I talked to her the entire time while I held her in my lap, and kissed her tiny forehead, and told her how brave, beautiful and loved she was. I named her Marla. We arrived to the clinic in 30 min and They immediately started her on oxygen and were preparing to hospitalize her over night. I told them to do their best.

They just called and her little body had lost its fight. 💔

I have no idea where she came from. I have no idea how she knew to drag herself right in my eye sight at that exact moment. And I have no idea how she held on long enough so she didn’t make me watch her die in the car. But what I do know, is for a couple of hours, she got love. She got snuggled, soft landing, and air so she didn’t struggle. She simply went to sleep. She didn’t die alone in the heat and suffer. And while I desperately hoped we could help her enough to bring her home. I still know we helped as much as we could.

Her emergency bill was $245. Im now faced with a tough decision. Once we take them, they’re ours. They’re misfits, from the start to the end. We have always cremated all of our babies, but right now, with donations at an almost full fault- I don’t know if we can do that. 😔 a cremation with return is $266 additional. We can let them do a communal cremation with no remains; or we could donate her body for medical research. I have til the morning to decide. 😔 🌈

If you would care to donate towards little Marla’s final costs, we would be so grateful. We never turn an animal in need away for care, but we must have help to do so. Light a candle for our sweet little angel, if you could 🩷
