Some members of the ORFH staff spent a productive Tuesday this week at the Reinvest Washington regional summit, held by NCRC in Tacoma.

The event covered a variety of housing, economic and community development conversations, including a panel led by ORFH's Executive Director Marty Miller. The panel featured presentations on innovative solutions that would create more affordable housing in our state, and featured Kris Hermanns of the WA Starter Home Plan, Martin Leung of the Ballmer Group and Maggie Harlow Richter of Our Valley Our Future.

The new emergency shelter at 910 W. Chestnut Ave. is expected to open to clients in late October, YWCA Yakima officials said.

This morning, ORFH staff joined the YWCA Yakima, ZBA Architecture, P.S., Kitt Construction & Development, LLC, members of the community and more at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Rocio's Place, an adaptive re-use project that transformed a former nursing school into a safe space for women and families overcoming domestic violence.

The dedicated time and effort to make Rocio's Place a reality was truly a team effort, and ORFH is proud to have been a part of the journey. Many special thanks go to our own Isabel Garcia, the lead developer on the project.

Last Friday, the Othello Housing Authority invited team members from development partner ORFH, M.C. Lundgren, ZBA Architecture, Adams County and more to help celebrate the Grand Opening of Rocky Point.

This new affordable housing development is workforce housing that serves farmworker households and the vital agricultural industry. We are so glad we could participate in celebrating this win with the OHA! Congratulations!

Take a peek inside the progress at the YWCA's new domestic violence shelter, Rocio's Place, opening this fall. The renovation (aka "adaptive re-use") has transformed the former St. Elizabeth Nursing School building in Yakima.
