Encouraging students to gain expertise in tree fruit production and related industries. Informing the general public about any and all matters relating to the production of food and the practices of the tree fruit industry.

We're pleased to host Jim Smith, Senior Director of Development at WSU's College of Agricultural, Human, & Natural Resource Sciences, alongside Lee Kalcsits, for an update on the TFREC Plant Growth Facility.

Two decades in development, the facility broke ground this spring — a significant milestone for tree fruit research capacity in the Yakima Valley, and one the POM Club has supported along the way. Jim and Lee will share where the project stands, what it enables for the region's research community, and what's ahead.

Tonight, the Yakima Pom Club is hosting Cheryl Reese, Farm Stress Co-Coordinator at WSU Yakima Extension.

Farm stress isn't a soft topic. It's a real one. Financial pressure, generational transitions, isolation, the weather doing what the weather does. Our industry loses good people to it every year, and most of us know someone. We're grateful for the work Cheryl does, and glad she's willing to spend an evening with us.

We'll also hear from our IFTA scholarship recipients ( Kai Hanrahan and Claire Rasch) on what they brought back from their trip. This is the payoff on the club's investment in the next generation of growers, and it's always one of the better parts of the year.

Pom Club is back on Wednesday, May 20th.

Eric Patrick (President, Northwest Cherries) and Karley Lange (Director of Domestic Promotions, Northwest Cherries) are joining us to talk cherry market conditions and where the 2026 season is heading. Plenty going on in the industry right now between export pressure, weather variability, and demand shifts. Should be a good conversation.

It's also our annual "cherry guess" meeting, so come prepared to make yours.

Zesta Cucina in Yakima. Social Hour at 5:30pm, dinner and the presentation at 6:15pm. If you grow, pack, or care about Yakima Valley cherries, come by.

We're back on, Pom Club! 🍎

Our April meeting is now Wednesday, April 22nd at Zesta Cucina. Thanks to everyone for being flexible on the reschedule. It means a lot.

This month we've got Dani Gray joining us, WSU Tree Fruit Extension Educator, talking all things codling moth. She'll cover IPM fundamentals, share what's coming out of her research, and update us on the Codling Moth Task Force. If you grow fruit, you know why this one matters.
