Kellee Payne, Yadkin County Cooperative Extension Horticulture Agent, and Chelsea Johnson, Family and Consumer Sciences Agent, have teamed up once again to serve as local food coordinators of a “Donation Station” to benefit YCM.

This is how the program works. Our local Extension Office hosts a “Donation Station” at the Yadkin Farmer’s Market bi-weekly on Tuesdays. On these dates local farmers who set up at the market and those coming to shop can donate produce and/or financial gifts at the station. Financial gifts are used to purchase produce to be included in the donated items for the station. All this lovely produce is then presented to YCM. We are so grateful to all who participated in this effort to help us offer healthy foods to our neighbors in need. Isn’t it amazing what our community can do working together to address need in Yadkin County. Thank you, Kellee and Chelsea, for heading up this effort!

Tyler Reinhardt, an Eagle Scout and adult scouting leader, presented YCM 101 pounds of food collected by Lodge 118 Order of the Arrow as a service project for a recent camping weekend. Scouts, thank you for partnering with us to address food insecurity!

Pilot View Friends mission focus for their recent VBS was YCM. The young people attending collected 312 of food. The fifth and sixth grader made 80 birthday cake kits to help our clients celebrate their special day! With all these generous gifts, Lockley and Helen Callaway presented 540 pounds of food from the church. Amazing job, dear Friends! Thank you for helping us feed and encourage the hungry!

John Norman of JTE Norman’s Farm Foods & Country Store donated 255 pounds of food and new tee-shirts for our clients to our East Bend Ministry Center. John, thank for these caring gifts to help feed and clothes our neighbors in need.

Madison Hicks organized a Community Yard Sale to benefit YCM. Sage & Serene Counseling sponsored this event requesting participants to share food or a financial gift for YCM as an entry fee. These generous vendors donated 70 pounds of food and $240 to YCM. A participant, Garden Route Coffee, donated 10% of their sales for this day. Thank you Madison, Sage & Serene Counseling, and you caring vendors for helping share the burden of our ministry.

United Fellowship Full Gospel Church felt lead, as a congregation, to assist YCM. Members of the church collected and delivered 2,150 pounds of food and $100 to us! Thank you, friends, for following God’s leading to help shoulder the burden of this ministry. Many will be blessed by your obedience.

On May 9 our postal service in Yadkin County participated in the national Stamp Out Hunger food drive. The post offices of Boonville, East Bend, Hamptonville, and Yadkinville all collected food for us. Our mail carriers placed cards in each mail box on their delivery routes announcing the event and then picked up the food that was donated. Many of the mail carriers even delivered the collected items to our ministry center. Thanks to these faithful mail carriers and a loving community 2,036.6 pounds of food were presented to our ministry centers. What a wonderful gift!

We are also very grateful to Janet Robbins, a YCM volunteer, for organizing this event and recruiting our local 4-H Club and YCM volunteers Martha Stout, Sandy DeGrange, and Theresa Martin to assist us with the event. We are grateful for these people who dedicated their Saturday afternoon to help us with this large food collection.

VFW Post 10346 conducted a food drive for YCM at Food Lion in Jonesville. Steven Mosteller presented 156 pounds of food and $400 to YCM donated by generous shoppers. Thank you Jonesville community and our veterans for sharing in this effort to help us feed the hungry in Yadkin County.

East Bend Veterans have once again blessed our East Bend Ministry Center with a food donation. These dedicated citizens collected 227 pounds of food! Thank you, veterans, for your continued commitment to help us feed the hungry.

We have completed another successful Empty Bowls event! The Lord blessed us with a beautiful day. Our local businesses Cracker Barrel, Taste of Italy, and Food Lion provided delicious food. Each piece of pottery was a lovely work of art. We are also indebted to our generous sponsors. We were so blessed to have the use of the Yadkin Moose Lodge for the event.

All this would not have been possible without a team of committed volunteers who worked tirelessly to make this event happen. Our wonderful group was flexible and willing to take the steps needed to make things run smoothly.

A special thanks to our caring community who supported this project with their participation. Thanks to all our hard-working, dedicated participants. What a tremendous impact this will have on our ability to address food insecurity in Yadkin County.
