The NC 4-H Shotgun League held it's fourth shoot of 2026 this past Saturday, May 30th, 2026, at Hidden Brook Sporting Club in North Wilkesboro, NC. This Sporting Clays event was hosted by the Yadkin Valley 4-H Shooting Sports Club, and had 46 kids participate from as far east as Tyrrell Co. and as far West as Henderson Co., with kids from all points in between. 10 different 4-H Clubs were represented on Saturday
The NC 4-H Shotgun Team, which will represent NC in a few weeks at the 4-H Shooting Sports National Championships in Grand Island, Nebraska, won a close contest in the Senior Division (ages 14-18) with members Ethan Vo, Logan Frazier, and Luke Brickhouse. Luke, a Junior, was filling in and was shooting up as a Senior. Ethan Vo was also the HOA for the Shoot and Senior Gold medalist with an outstanding 47/50 Score. The Second Place Senior Team was the "Shell Length Clay Hunters" from the Yadkin Valley 4-H Shooting Sports Club with members Maddox Nifong, Emory Giebitis, Hunter Myers, Reece Long, and Cameron White. Maddox and Emory tied for 2nd HOA, and Emory edged out Maddox in a Shoot-off to take the silver medal. Maddox took the bronze. The 3rd-Place Team was the NC 4-H Hunting Skills Team, with members Oleander Anderson, Trevor Johnson, Levi Williams, and Landon Eastvold.
Our other Senior Team, the "Swing-thru Clay Hunters," finished 6th with members Jackson O'Brien, Brantlee Evans, Peter Redelsheimer and Henry Corriher. Levi Williams, a member of the Yadkin Valley 4-H Shooting Sports Club, competed with the NC 4-H Hunting Skills Team for this event. These shoots are fun and simple, but a good warm-up for the National Championships.
In the Junior Division, Our Yadkin Valley 4-H Shooting Sports Club, "Pull-Away Clay Hunters" with members Samuel Macemore, Silas Johnson, Brayden Tucker and Jace Childers took the Gold medal with Wilkes County "All Americans" finishing second with members Thatcher Dowdle, Oliver "Duck" Eller, Titus Tilton, Jonah Perkins, and Rhyse Keene. The Junior HOA was Tucker Barnes from Catawba County, followed by Isaac Wilke from Henderson County, with the Silver and the Bronze medal went to Jonah Perkins from Wilkes County.
Special Thanks to Kelly and Tracey Dickson of Hidden Brook Sporting Club, our fantastic hosts. Love the club! Couldn't have asked for a better day or better hosts! Enjoyed meeting "Odin" as well! Also a big shout out to the North Carolina Youth Outdoor Engagement Commission for providing the grant to make this possible! The next NC 4-H Shotgun League shoot is TBD for July 25th. We will not have a June shoot due to the 4-H Nationals Championships held June 21-26.
