Hey parents and grandparents… Can you help me get the word out? Do you know of any kids or grandkids who might be interested in joining a different kind of 4H club? Gene along with a few friends started a 4H amateur (ham) radio club when the Dayton Hamvention came to Greene County. Several months after I lost him, and with the help of many friends, I decided to keep his 4H club dream alive, and I’m looking for any 4H age eligible youth who might want to check out and/or join our club. (Youth from other counties are allowed to join as long as their county does not have an amateur radio club.) Our monthly meetings typically consist of presentations or we go on outings. In past years, we’ve learned about the weather and how to use a soldering iron. We’ve toured the Wilmington NWS and watched a weather balloon launch; toured the Voice of America Museum; attended Hamvention and ARRL field day. This year, our youth are focused on getting their amateur radio technician license. Thanks to many supporters, our club has a very nice ham radio room. Under the guidance of licensed operators, all of our youth have been on the radios and most have made radio contact with other ham operators. Message me if you know someone who might be interested or if you want more information. Feel free to share. Thanks everyone.
