We weren’t sure we could pull it off, so we kept it under wraps for a while, but the goal all along was to create our next public art piece during the Wythe Arts Council Chautauqua Festival and we’re excited to announce that it’s happening!

Please join us in welcoming Josh Johnston from Boone, North Carolina. Josh has created numerous outstanding murals throughout downtown Boone and across Western North Carolina, helping transform public spaces through vibrant, community-focused artwork.

During this year’s Chautauqua Festival, Josh will be bringing Wytheville’s newest mural to life in the heart of Elizabeth Brown Park. This exciting addition to our growing collection of public art will continue to build on our sense of place and experience right here at home.

Be sure to stop by, say hello, and watch this incredible mural take shape throughout the festival. There’s something special about seeing public art created in real time.

Okay everyone, we have had so much engagement and feedback on this post and it's clear there is a lot of excitement about bringing chalk art to the Downtown Wytheville July 4 America 250th Celebration and Street Festival this year!

Unfortunately, despite our efforts, we have not been able to secure a professional chalk artist capable of creating artwork at this scale. But rather than let the idea fade away, we're ready to pivot and turn it into a little friendly patriotic competition!

If we can get at least 10 participants signed up, we'll host a Chalk Art Contest during the festival with two divisions:

🇺🇸 Ages 18 & Under
🇺🇸 Ages 18+

The winning artist in each division will receive a $100 gift card, festival t-shirt and commemorative poster, with winners selected by the general public attending the event.

If we reach 10 or more participants, we'll make it happen!

Interested? Sign up at the link below and help us bring some colorful creativity to Downtown Wytheville this Independence Day.

To be eligible for the contest, you must supply your own chalk and materials as needed. We will provide a 6ft x 6ft spot for your creation. Entries that stay with an America 250th patriotic theme are recommended but not mandatory.

Share this post with your friends, family, artists, and aspiring artists. Let's see what our community can create!

Hear ye! Hear ye! Dunk a Redcoat. For America!

This 4th of July, the Millwald is settling the score, one dunk at a time.
From noon to 4 PM, in front of the theatre, we're hosting a Revolutionary-era dunk tank featuring a rotating cast of absurd patriotic costumed characters, questionable historical accuracy, and wildly inconsistent British accents.
Throughout the day, a new Redcoat will take the seat. Bring the family and your throwing arm. Our country needs you in Downtown Wytheville!

We are pumped to announce the headliner of the July 4 America 250th Celebration and Street Festival this year!

Hailing all the way from New Orleans, J & The Causeways have built a loyal following with their powerful blend of soul, rock, Americana, and R&B. Fronted by Jordan Anderson's dynamic vocals and backed by a talented ensemble of musicians, the band delivers an authentic sound that's both timeless and fresh.
