WHY DOES RURAL SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA NEED A
FANDOM CONVENTION?

When people think about comic cons, science fiction conventions, cosplay, and gaming events, they usually picture big cities with thousands of attendees.

But why should the big cities have all the fun?

Southwest Virginia is full of talented artists, writers, gamers, cosplayers, collectors, and fans of science fiction and fantasy. Yet opportunities to bring these communities together close to home can be few and farbetween.

THAT'S WHY WYVACON EXISTS!

We believe you shouldn't have to travel hundreds of miles or spend hundreds of dollars just to celebrate the things you love. We believe small towns deserve big imaginations!

WYVACON is about more than costumes, comic books, and video games. It's about building something meaningful right here in Southwest Virginia.

It's about COMMUNITY. Giving people of all ages a place to meet others who share their interests, make friendships, and feel like they belong.

It's about OPPORTUNITY. Providing local authors, artists, vendors, and small businesses a place to showcase their talents and reach new audiences.

It's about FAMILIES. Creating affordable, family-friendly experiences where parents and children can discover new interests and make lasting memories together.

And most importantly, it's about LITERACY. WYVACON is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to encourage childhood literacy through
science fiction and fantasy literature. We believe the same stories that inspire us to imagine distant galaxies, magical kingdoms, andextraordinary adventures can also inspire a child to pick up a book and discover a lifelong love of reading.

We're not trying to turn Southwest Virginia into a big city.
We're trying to prove that you don't have to live in one to do something extraordinary. But building a lasting fandom community takes more than one convention each year. It takes volunteers, local businesses, creators, families, and fans who believe in what we're building.

SO HERE'S OUR QUESTION FOR YOU:

Do you think Southwest Virginia needs more events like WYVACON? And what would YOU like to see at future conventions?
Tell us in the comments, share this post, and help us continue building something special right here at home.

BIG FANDOM. SMALL TOWN. ENDLESS IMAGINATION.

📚 WE NEED CHILDREN’S BOOKS! 📚

WYVACON needs your help!

One of the most important parts of our mission is encouraging childhood literacy and helping young readers discover the excitement of a great book. To continue that mission, we are asking our community for donations of new or gently used children’s books.

We especially welcome:

📖 Children’s books for all reading levels
🚀 Science Fiction
🐉 Fantasy
🦸 Superhero & Adventure Stories
👻 Age-appropriate Horror & Spooky Stories
📚 Graphic Novels & Comics
✨ Any books that can help a child discover a love of reading!

We need MORE books so we can reach MORE kids.

If you have books sitting on a shelf that your children have outgrown, consider giving those stories another adventure by donating them to WYVACON.

Businesses, organizations, schools, authors, publishers, and individuals are all welcome to help!

Every donated book is another opportunity to put a story into the hands of a young reader.

Help us fill some bookshelves and build the next generation of readers!

Please message WYVACON for information about donating books.
