Every year, the Junior League of Reading is proud to present our annual $5,000 scholarship to an outstanding young woman graduating from a Berks County high school. This award isn’t just about academic success; it is explicitly judged against a rigorous rubric that honors exceptional community spirit, exemplary leadership, and a deep commitment to volunteerism.

We want to foster the growth of local leaders who use their voices to lift others up—and our 2026 Scholarship Winner, Amy Tran, embodies that exact mission.

A recent graduate of Wilson High School, Amy has made an unforgettable footprint in our community. While balancing heavy responsibilities helping support her family’s local business, she consistently stepped up to lead:

Community Impact: As co-captain of her Mini-THON Hospitality team, she helped mobilize local businesses to raise over $100,000 in the fight against pediatric cancer.

Peer Leadership: As co-president of HOSA, she guided a team of 27 students all the way to state-level competitions.

Advocacy: Through VOiCEup Berks and the Youth Advisory Board, Amy has dedicated herself to learning how to advocate passionately for those who cannot advocate for themselves.

This fall, Amy is taking her incredible drive to the University of Pennsylvania, where she will study neuroscience on the pre-med track. Currently interning at Reading Hospital, Amy’s ultimate dream is to return home to Berks County to practice medicine as a physician—giving right back to the community that shaped her.

Amy, we are incredibly proud to support your bright future. Congratulations! 🎓🌟

Thank you to everyone who made our 19th Annual Touch-a-Truck a huge success! We were able to raise close to $20,000 towards our youth and women empowerment initiatives! Our most successful year to date! 🙌🚚

With 45 vehicle exhibits, 35 vendors, 28 participating businesses, and nearly 1,700 attendees, it was an unforgettable day of family fun—all supporting the Junior League of Reading’s Women’s Leadership and Youth Empowerment Initiatives.

We’re so grateful for our sponsors, partners, volunteers, and community members who made this event possible. Special shout out to the Fightins for partnering with us year after year! We can’t wait to see you all at Touch-a-Truck 2027 🚒❤️

Congratulations to our volunteer member, Colleen Gensemer, on her completion and participation in the 2025-2026 Leadership Berks program! The program included nine months of training and the presentation of a service project for a local non profit. 👏

Colleen shared about her experience in the program; “This journey has ignited a stronger passion within me to serve. While I entered this program seeking to grow as a leader, I leave with a renewed commitment to community impact. I will be stepping into a leadership role in Community Development for the Junior League this fall and have joined the Board of the Greater Berks Mental Health Alliance. I am also exploring additional ways to contribute, including supporting local library initiatives and engaging in redevelopment efforts within the City of Reading.” 🌟

We are so proud of you and are so lucky to have you apart of our league! ❤️

Growing our impact, one leader at a time! 💛✨At our 2026 Annual Dinner, the Junior League of Reading proudly celebrated the formal transition of eight dedicated women into our Active membership.

Throughout their first year, these newest members have already made a tangible mark on Berks County. From spearheading the Angel Tree program for CONCERN during the holiday season and hosting a highly successful tool and toolkit drive for young people at Mary’s Shelter, to stepping into League committee work this spring with incredible energy and fresh perspectives, they have provided an amazing boost to our mission. 🌟

None of this would be possible without our incredible New Member Committee, who guided, mentored, and supported this class every step of the way!

Please join us in celebrating our newest Active members: ✨ Kylie Alfonse ✨ Jenna Austin ✨ Kelly Choate ✨ Andrea Helman ✨ Vanessa Lawrence ✨ Michelle Machuzick ✨ Alissa Ott ✨ Sonia Rieger

We are so grateful to have these inspiring women on our team as we continue to develop women leaders and serve our community. Welcome to the next chapter of your League journey, ladies! 🙌💪

Transition Thursday!✨ As we wrap up another incredible year, the Junior League of Reading is celebrating the amazing women who guide our mission, volunteer initiatives, and community impact.

During our Annual Dinner, we celebrated many meaningful traditions; the passing of the gavel to our newest President, the gifting of the Presidents pendant to our next President Elect, & welcoming our newest board members. As of June 1, we are proud to officially welcome Caroline Lash Hill as our 2026–2027 President! In addition, we welcome our three newest Vice Presidents — Dana Heins, Jaclyn Hackman, and Stacey Carmello — as well as our incoming President-Elect, Katie Diamond Rothstein and President-Elect-Elect, Rebecca Doutrich! 🌟👏

We are fortunate to have wonderful continuity leading us directly into the next League year. At the same time, we want to extend a massive thank you to our outgoing Board of Directors members, Jenna Hiester, Lacy Preddie-Lara and Whitney Shurr Dragone, for their fantastic leadership, tireless service, and dedication! 🪵❤️
👏

To our outgoing President, Jenna Hiester, we are so grateful for your leadership and service throughout a year centered on The Magic Within — honoring the spark each member brings and the impact we create together through shared purpose and leadership.💪💛

We have supported various projects over the years for the local LGBT Center of Reading. During our Young Women Summit last year, our participants and volunteers created wellness kits to be distributed to the LGBT Center of Greater Reading. Kits included positive notes and hygiene essentials.

“The LGBT Center of Greater Reading creates, administers, and provides services, advocacy, and support to the Greater Reading LGBTQ+ community, including our allies, with the goal that all may live a life of fulfillment, inclusion, and celebration.” Learn more about the LGBT Center at www.lgbtcenterofreading.com and at

Leadership, empathy, and a profound commitment to service! 🌟🏆 The Junior League of Reading is incredibly honored to announce Meg Valente as our 2025–2026 Founder’s Award recipient!

This prestigious accolade is reserved for an Active Member with four or more years of service who beautifully champions the Junior League spirit of voluntarism through an exceptional attitude, stellar leadership, and distinguished contributions to both our organization and the wider Berks County community. 💛

Now in her eighth Active year, Meg’s positive impact spans almost every corner of our League. She has stepped up time and again into vital leadership roles, including serving as the first VP of DEIB on our Board of Directors, Chair of the Advocacy and New Member Committees, and Chair of our 100th Anniversary Ad Hoc Committee.

Most recently, Meg has done a phenomenal job driving member engagement and leadership development as Chair of the Lean In Girls Ad Hoc Committee and this year’s Training and Arrangements Committee Chair. Known for her deep empathy, thoughtfulness, and commitment to creating a welcoming, authentic space for all women, Meg truly embodies the heart of our mission. 🌸✨

Thank you, Meg, for your inspiring vision, your behind-the-scenes dedication, and for being such a bright light in our League! 🙌💪

Partnering for impact! 🤝✨ At our 2026 Annual Dinner, the Junior League of Reading was incredibly proud to honor Gaming & Leisure Properties, Inc. (GLPI) as our 2025–2026 Community Partner Award recipient!
This special award recognizes local organizations and businesses whose outstanding support meaningfully strengthens our ability to advance women’s leadership and create deep, lasting change in Berks County. 💛

For the past four years, GLPI has stepped up as the Title Sponsor for our Young Women’s Summit. Through their incredibly generous annual $7,500 contribution, they fund the majority of this essential program. Their consistent multi-year commitment provides the stability we need to confidently grow the Summit each year, ensuring that local middle school girls have access to a life-changing day focused entirely on leadership development, confidence, and personal growth. 🌟

By anchor-funding this program, GLPI also empowers our League to focus additional resources on our other critical community initiatives and member training programs.

Thank you, GLPI, for your phenomenal dedication to empowering the next generation of young women leaders and partnering with us to build a better community! 🏆💪
