Camden-Wyoming Rotary Club celebrated this year's scholarship winners at its meeting on June 17. Scholarship Chair Fran Johnson noted that Club members contribute to the scholarship fund at every meeting throughout the year, and then the Club’s Flag Program puts the funding over-the-top, allowing the Club to award four $2000 scholarships to graduating seniors at Caesar Rodney School District. This year’s awardees Alexandria Cacopardo, Andrew Guiterrez, and Parker White attended the Club’s meeting to meet Club members, share their future plans, and receive their financial awards. Parents were on hand for the celebration as well. (Recipient Arlo Boxton was unable to attend)

Great meeting today with the Camden-Wyoming Rotary Club! We were honored to host John Parana, Executive Director of the First State Animal Center and SPCA (FSAC-SPCA).

John shared an inspiring look at the incredible work his team is doing to protect and care for animals across our community. From managing large-scale animal intake to providing support for families facing difficult transitions—including those experiencing housing loss or Dover Air Force Base reassignments—the FSAC-SPCA team is a true lifeline.

We were especially touched to learn about their new facility in Hartley, which serves as a sanctuary where animals who aren’t adopted can live out their lives in comfort and safety.

Looking ahead, we are excited about the potential for our club to partner with the FSAC-SPCA on community outreach and upcoming projects, such as facilitating rabies vaccinations for local pets.

To learn more about their mission, their low-cost veterinary clinics, or how you can support their life-saving work, visit their website at https://fsac-spca.org.

🏆 Congratulations, Camden-Wyoming Rotary Club! 🏆

We are proud to announce that the Camden-Wyoming Rotary Club has earned the Gold EPIC Award.

The EPIC (Excellence in Public Image Citation) Award recognizes Rotary clubs that demonstrate outstanding efforts in promoting Rotary's mission, telling their club's story, engaging their community, and strengthening Rotary's public image. Achieving Gold status reflects a strong commitment to sharing the impact Rotary makes both locally and around the world.

This year, only five clubs in our district earned an EPIC Award: one Platinum, one Gold, two Silver, and one Bronze. We are honored that the Camden-Wyoming Rotary Club was recognized with the Gold Award among this distinguished group.

Special thanks go to our Club President, Anne Mathisen, whose leadership, encouragement, and support helped make this achievement possible. We also recognize the dedicated work of our Public Image Committee members, Yasmith Johnson and Ronald Kahn, whose efforts in promoting our club's activities, service projects, and community impact contributed significantly to earning this recognition.

This award belongs to our entire club. Every member who participates in service projects, attends events, shares Rotary's story, and lives the motto of Service Above Self helps strengthen our public image and our ability to serve others.

Congratulations to all of our members on this outstanding accomplishment!

Thank you to Patty Shipper for joining the Camden Wyoming Rotary Club on Wednesday for a powerful and deeply informative presentation on Alzheimer’s and brain health! 🧠💜

Patty, a Magnolia resident and retired Supply Chain Director, volunteers with the Alzheimer’s Association—a mission deeply personal to her family’s own experience with dementia. Since her first Walk to End Alzheimer’s in 2016, she has been a tireless advocate, now serving as a Community Educator and on the Community Engagement Committee for the Rehoboth Beach Walk.

During her visit, Patty shared some eye-opening statistics and vital information about the Alzheimer's Association's ongoing efforts:
🔹 Over **7 million Americans** are currently living with Alzheimer's.
🔹 Nearly **13 million caregivers** provide unpaid care for their loved ones.
🔹 **Prevention matters:** The **US POINTER Study** highlights that diet, exercise, cognitive stimulation, and heart health significantly reduce cognitive decline.
🔹 Modifiable risk factors like high blood pressure, diabetes, and unhealthy habits are key areas where we can take control of our brain health!

Patty also updated us on important advocacy work, including the *Alzheimer Screening and Prevention Act* and state-level legislation to make early detection accessible to everyone.

Let's continue to support early detection, risk reduction, and the millions of families navigating this journey. Thank you, Patty, for sharing your time, expertise, and passion with our club!

On Thursday afternoon, eight incredible members of our Nobles Pond Satellite Club of Camden-Wyoming Rotary rolled up their sleeves at the Food Bank of Delaware to pack 655 backpacks filled with hope and nutrition.
Moving briskly down two assembly lines, the team packed bag after bag and box after box with essential food and drinks. These packages are now heading out to local school districts to fill the backpacks of students who need them most.
Huge shoutout to our hardworking volunteers for making such a massive impact in just one afternoon!

What an incredible, high-energy meeting at the Camden Wyoming Rotary Club!🌟

We were absolutely blown away by our guest speaker, Bobby Jones, owner of Dover’s own award-winning Bright Side Roofing. Bobby delivered a dynamic and deeply inspiring talk that left the whole room energized!

Growing up in Magnolia, Delaware, Bobby faced immense adversity, including childhood struggles with family addiction, frequent school moves, and multiple arrests starting at just 13 years old. But his core message to us was powerful and clear: Your past experiences do not dictate your future.

With the unwavering support of his amazing wife, Heather, Bobby completely turned his life around. From working his way up to management at Walmart to taking a leap of faith inspired by a book, he and Heather built Bright Side Roofing from the ground up.
Because of their fierce commitment to quality and training, they are now the only Master Elite Certified roofing contractor in Kent County!

But Bobby’s story isn't just about business growth—it’s about using success to lift up others. He and his team are making a massive impact in our community by:
🔨 Donating roofs to Habitat for Humanity.
🇺🇸 Assisting veterans through their incredible "Roofs for Valor" program.

Thank you, Bobby, for sharing your authentic journey of overcoming obstacles. Your passion for leadership and community service truly embodies the Rotary spirit of "Service Above Self."
