View From the Helm
Ahoy PSC Members,
From the helm of PSC, the view continues to fill me with gratitude and awe for how sailing has shaped my life for the better and enriched it in so many ways.
As sailors, this is the season when we count the days—and even the minutes—until the official start of the sailing year. This is the time when we prepare to launch our boats, step aboard once again, and raise the sails for the first time of the season. That first spring sail, in the crisp air on the lake with trees just beginning to bloom, sets in motion a season of renewal, enrichment, and community.
Each winter, we take stock of the projects our boats need for the months ahead. We plan what requires refurbishment and what refinements we’d like to make—whether to deck fittings, lines, or simply adding a new cockpit cushion. This thoughtful planning is part of the natural cycle of the sailing season. Once we launch and the season begins, we fall into its familiar rhythm—the steady cadence of sails, wind, and time on the water.
Some of our sails are shared with longtime friends and bring us together in celebration of enduring friendships. Other sails are with new sailors and new friends, marking the beginning of adventures that may shape a lifetime. And then there are the solo sails—quiet, reflective moments that reconnect us with ourselves and give us a sense of being one with nature, the wind, and the water.
It is the friendship, beauty, rejuvenation, wisdom, and enrichment that sailing brings to my life—and to the lives of my family, friends, and fellow sailors—for which I am most grateful. Thank you to each of you for enriching the PSC community and the lives of those we encounter along this shared sailing adventure.
As this season unfolds, may each of us find joy in every kind of sailing adventure we make together. I look forward to seeing you onboard, at a PSC event, on the water, and under sail.
Fair winds,
Commodore Angela
