The photos here are of New Hope School. Due to improper construction and management the deck was made out of untreated lumber, as you can see it is rotten and must be replaced. After tearing the deck down, it was discovered the plywood was used from the deck down with no flashing and has rotted beyond repair, so all this has to be torn out and replaced.

We have applied for grants for the repairs to the deck with treated lumber and hopefully will receive them, but only one small grant has come through for $2500.00. That still leaves $8500.00 for the deck only. As I stated we are trying for a grant for this but have not received it yet. The grant application did not include the extra expense to replace the plywood with shiplap and flashing. All of this should have been done to begin with. The school has not been open to the public for over 18 months due to this hazard, and we hope to get it corrected.

Therefore, the Cross County Historical Society is asking for any donations to help with the New Hope School. Your donations are tax deductible and of course are appreciated. Make checks to New Hope School, PO Box 943, Wynne, AR 72396.

Cross County Museum Challenges Cross County

The Arkansas Community Foundation is urging Arkansans to take time out on Thursday, April 2, to make on-line contributions to favorite nonprofits in the state. In Wynne the Cross County Museum & Archives, which includes the New Hope School, is participating. This is a good time for charitable
giving because ARCF will actually give more to the nonprofit based on the amount and numbers of gifts given from a pool of $250,000.

---All donations must be made online through the website,
arkansasgives.org, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. on
Thursday, April 2.

---There is a minimum donation of $25.00

---Visa, Master Card, Discover, American Express and
debit card will be accepted.

---All donor contact and gift information received will be
sent to the respective nonprofit organizations unless
anonymity is requested.

The Cross County Museum's computer will be available on that day for people who don't have access at home. Watch for more information and reminders through the local news media during March.
