Our program speakers were our very own Lexie Gahr, Samantha Hagler, and Bevin Hunter, who spoke about all the great things our community can look forward to with this year’s Farm Fest celebrations. This year is special, because it marks the 50th anniversary of the first Farm Fest, which was held in 1976. It begins on Thursday, May 28th and lasts until Sunday, May 31st. For a list of events, please follow Wynne FarmFest!

Wishing a very Happy 40th Birthday to our Rotary Club President, Jeremy Bailey. We extend our best wishes for many more years to come, so he may continue to support and lead our club.

Today, Wynne Rotary Club was honored to have Reese Oguin speak to us. Reese is Miss Steel Capitals Teen and spoke to us about her campaign on Distracted Driving. She has taken the initiative to educate others about how easily one can be distracted while driving, whether it's texting, talking, switching radio stations, or being in a heavy conversation. It only takes one second for an accident to happen and change lives forever. She gifted us all with a red ring that says "Worth the Wait" and encourages everyone to remind themselves it can wait next time you're driving and your phone dings.

Yesterday, Wynne Rotary Club held its meeting at the Wynne Fire Department where we were able to witness something that truly embodies the spirit of "service above self".

Last month, local teenager Vessa Batchelor was at home with her siblings when a fire started in the back bedroom of the house. Vessa relied on her instincts and what she's been taught over the years from Wynne Fire Department's Fire Prevention Program. She activated the 911 system, closed the door to the bedroom to prevent it from rapidly spreading, and evacuated her siblings from the house to a safe area while the fire department extinguished the fire. Because of her remarkable efforts, no one was injured, and the damage to the home was confined to that single bedroom. Chief Kory Ward presented her with a Community Hero award.

Chief Ward then took Rotarians on a tour of the station. Wynne FD has eight apparatuses that are equipped to respond to a variety of calls in the city and the county, and 21 firefighters (eleven full-time and ten part-time).

We would like to thank Chief Ward for inviting us to use the fire department for a meeting, and to firefighters TJ Tillman and Samuel Brown for setting everything up for us.
