Legacy in Action: The Troy & Cheree' Bontrager Scholarship

For Troy and Cheree’ Bontrager, supporting Wylie ISD students is deeply personal.
Both proud graduates of Wylie High School, Troy and Cheree’ have experienced firsthand the life-changing impact of a Wylie ISD education. Their connection to the district spans generations, with both of their children also attending Wylie schools. Through this scholarship, they hope to provide the same encouragement and opportunities that helped shape their own lives.

The Troy & Cheree’ Bontrager Scholarship was established to support students who have faced hardships yet demonstrated resilience, courage, and determination. It recognizes that life often presents challenges, but true character is revealed in how we respond to them.

Throughout their own journeys, Troy and Cheree’ learned invaluable lessons from Wylie ISD educators and leaders who invested in them far beyond academics. For Troy, those lessons in leadership, responsibility, and perseverance helped guide him to a successful career and advanced education. For Cheree’, the support she received as a young mother while attending Wylie High School—and the scholarships that helped her continue her education—proved life-changing. Today, she credits those opportunities with helping her earn both bachelor's and master's degrees and creating a future she once only dreamed possible.

Through the Wylie ISD Education Foundation, this scholarship honors the spirit of perseverance and ensures that future Wylie students facing challenges have access to opportunities that can transform their lives.

Legacy in Action: The Nancy & Clyde Parker Family Scholarship

The story of the Nancy & Clyde Parker Family Scholarship begins with two people who believed deeply in family, hard work, and the power of education.

After serving in the Army during World War II, Clyde Parker returned home and, alongside his wife Nancy, chose Wylie as the place to build their future. Clyde opened Wylie Hardware while Nancy began a career with First State Bank of Wylie. Together, they raised two sons and instilled in them the importance of education and opportunity.

Although neither Clyde nor Nancy had the opportunity to attend college themselves, they believed strongly in the doors that higher education could open. Their commitment to education became a family legacy—one that has continued through generations of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who have benefited from a Wylie education and gone on to pursue college degrees.

Through the Wylie ISD Education Foundation, the Nancy & Clyde Parker Family Scholarship extends that same opportunity to future generations of Wylie students. The scholarship was created with the hope that students from all backgrounds will have access to the resources they need to continue their education and pursue their dreams without the added burden of financial obstacles.

The Parker family believes that every child deserves the opportunity to shape their own future—and that those opportunities create a positive cycle of giving back that can impact communities for generations.

The Master Sgt. Fred & Linda McClure Memorial Scholarship was established to honor a life of service, dedication, and commitment to others.

MSgt. Fred McClure proudly served more than 20 years in the United States Air Force, including service during the Vietnam War. As a Boom Operator aboard a KC-135 flight crew, much of his career was spent refueling aircraft in flight—an essential role carried out with skill, discipline, and pride. Fred never viewed military service as simply a job; he considered it an honor and privilege to serve his country.

Alongside him every step of the way was his wife, Linda, who proudly supported Fred’s military career and shared his heart for service and community.
After retirement, Fred and Linda returned to their hometown of Kennett, Missouri, where they continued giving back by volunteering in their local school district—encouraging students to work hard, pursue excellence, and believe in their futures.

Through the Wylie ISD Education Foundation, this scholarship honors their legacy by helping students continue their education and pursue their personal goals.

Learning comes to life when students can experience it firsthand.

Thanks to a grant funded by the Wylie ISD Education Foundation and written by District Learning Specialist Lindsey Garner, every Wylie ISD elementary campus was equipped with incubators, heat lamps, and feeding stations for the district's annual egg-hatching project.

As part of their life cycle unit, first-grade students observed eggs from incubation to hatching, recorded their observations in science journals, and learned how animals grow and develop. More than 250 chicks hatched across the district, creating an unforgettable hands-on learning experience for students.

The results were remarkable! Student mastery of life cycle concepts increased from 60% on a pre-assessment to 97% by the end of the unit, proving the power of engaging, real-world learning opportunities.

This is the impact of your support. Thank you to our donors for helping bring innovative educational experiences to Wylie ISD classrooms and inspiring the next generation of learners.
