William “Bill” E. Barber at the age of 104. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gilda Meaut Barber. Gilda was born and raised in Biloxi, Mississippi. She raised 3 children with her first husband before their divorce in the early 1960’s. She married Col. Barber in 1966. Shortly after their marriage, Gilda was diagnosed with glaucoma, a disease that affects the eyes. By the time she reached her 50

’s she had very restricted vision and she was completely blind by her death in 2010. She and Bill decided that upon their deaths they would set up a Trust for the purpose of helping other blind and visually impaired persons. That vision became a reality in January 2022. The Trust is administered by Gilda’s oldest son, Judge Charles “Chuck” Ruckel (Ret) and his son, Sean Ruckel. The primary goal of this Trust is to help improve the lives of blind and visually impaired persons by providing funds for education, instructive camps, and other learning tools that may be developed.
