Thank you, AHA! 🩵

For years, Athletes Helping Athletes, Inc. has helped Comprehensive Learning Center create opportunities for children and adults with autism to stay active, build healthy habits, and gain greater independence.

Athletes Helping Athletes has invested in many aspects of CLC—from our playground to recreation equipment and a treadmill, to our move into our current building, which allowed us to expand and serve more learners. Their generosity has had a lasting impact on our learners and community.

Most recently, AHA donated $5,000 to replace essential fitness equipment! At CLC, fitness is about so much more than exercise. Through individualized instruction, learners build strength, coordination, confidence, healthy routines, and the skills needed to safely participate in recreation and community fitness settings. These experiences promote independence, improve overall well-being, and help learners participate more fully in their families and communities.

As we celebrate 25 years of CLC, we're proud to recognize Athletes Helping Athletes as one of the community partners who has helped make that impact possible. Thank you for investing in healthier, more independent futures for the individuals we serve!

Way to go, Joey!

Way to go, Joey!

Every new communication skill Joey learns opens the door to greater independence and gives him more ways to express himself.

This year, he's made incredible progress using his Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) device to communicate about the people, places, and activities that bring him joy.

One of Joey's biggest accomplishments has been learning to independently identify frequently used objects on his AAC device. This used to be challenging because it required navigating through multiple screens, but with lots of practice and small, achievable steps, he's made amazing progress.

Joey also loves spending time with the people he cares about. As his communication skills continue to grow, he's learning to use his AAC device to communicate about the important people in his life, giving him another meaningful way to express himself and connect with others.

And, of course, Joey found a way to communicate one of his favorite things— playing on the swings! After learning how to ask for a push on his AAC device this spring, he quickly mastered the skill and now independently requests a push from a variety of instructors on the playground.

Every new word and new skill represents another opportunity for Joey to connect with the world around him. We are so proud of his hard work, determination, and all the progress he has made. We can't wait to see what he accomplishes next!
