We assume most of you had no idea we even existed, and at this time last year we actually didn’t...The fundraising committee is comprised of volunteers; Torpedoes parents and coaches, who are working together to raise funds for future projects that will improve the club, without affecting player dues. Our inaugural event was this past July, right here in town at Wyckoff Community Park. Some may re

member it as the TSC 3v3 Summer Showdown and others may not remember it at all. It was a one day festival like event with over a dozen head organizers and a huge showing of parent and player support. The net result for this first time fundraising effort was approximately $15,000 in profits, set aside for the Club and for the benefit of our players... The best part was that over 45% of the teams who played were from out of town, so a nice portion of the funds raised reached beyond our Club members and families. Smart fiscal management over the history of the Club has allowed TSC to lead some great local initiatives. First, we are one of the only local Clubs that has our own indoor facility, where our kids can train year-round. Second, Torpedoes fully developed and funded the cage at Memorial Field, and this space is enjoyed by any athlete who wants to use it. Finally the turf field project at Pulis, a massive undertaking in the Wyckoff community, has been fully supported by TSC with a $500,000 commitment funded over 10 years to build and maintain the facility. The construction equipment is on-site, work has begun at Pulis!! Depending upon the weather the turf should be complete by April or May. The momentum in the Club continues… Over this past season, many of you may have noticed the Club’s continued evolution, especially in the lower age divisions. At the U8 Level, trainers have now taken over the majority of the weekly practices. Starting at U9, players are now divided by competitive ability. Starting at U10, teams are now led by full time trainer/coaches. The club now offers pre-kicker clinics and U7 training, focused on introducing the game to little ones. As the club’s offerings have been growing; the number of trainers involved in the club has multiplied. The Board of Directors is considering creating a Director of Coaching ‘DOC’ position to better manage these trainers. Think of a DOC as a CEO/COO, an employee who reports to the board, who will supervise and train the club’s trainers and coaches, among other potential duties. By no means is this a done deal, it is something that is actively being explored by the board. As the preliminary discussions began
earlier in the year, a few parents got together and organized under the premise, that if we were able to raise funds to help ease the financial burden of hiring a qualified person for this role, it may be easier to move ahead and add this resource at some point in the future. Thus the fundraising committee was formed. Regardless of the direction the club takes with regards to the potential DOC role, the funds raised by this parent group will go towards improvements that will benefit all of our players. The members of the fundraising committee are hard at work on our next event; the first ever TSC Winter Social, complete with an exciting theme, live popular local band, great food & drink and a venue located conveniently in the middle of town... We will make the night affordable for all to enjoy and the invite will extend to the broader community beyond current Torpedoes families. So please SAVE THE DATE… Saturday, February 21, 2015. More details will follow, and plenty of volunteers will be needed... But the space will also be limited. The success of this night and all of the Fundraising Committee’s efforts are only as strong as the support we receive from the broader group of parents. We are just 10 people out of the hundreds that are involved. With the vast amount of parental resources that has gone untapped for years, one of our goals is to get others involved and have groups of parents keep this fundraising effort strong for the future generations of Torpedoes players. We have initiated the first steps to jump start this effort but we will need your support to make this a success. Thanks for your time and stay tuned for further details.
