Earlier tonight, Rescue Company 1 along with Fire Company 2 were dispatched to one of the local hotels for a reported elevator entrapment with multiple occupants.

Upon arrival, crews located the elevator car stopped on the third level. Company 1 firefighters safely opened the elevator doors, allowing all trapped occupants to exit without injury.

After ensuring everyone was safely out of the elevator, our new friends asked for a picture with us to remember the eventful night.

HUGE THANK YOU to Mahwah Township Mayor Wysocki and the Mahwah Fire Department for loaning Vernon Township their tanker while ours was on order. This tanker was a big help while we had it and served Vernon well. Today, we delivered that tanker to its new home in Sandyston, where we were greeted by both Mayor Wysocki and Deputy Mayor Kamala M. "Kammy" Hull of Sandyston. Best of luck!

Earlier this afternoon, Rescue Company 1 along with Fire Companies 2, 4, Mahwah EMS, and Bergen County Sheriff responded to the Ramapo Reservation for a reported injured hiker.

Upon locating the patient, Mahwah EMS assessed the injuries and requested Rescue Company 1 to extract the patient. RS-1 responded with a stokes basket litter with wheel system. Upon arrival, they made their way up Bear Swamp Road to the patient’s location along the trail. Rescue Engine 117’s crew also arrived on scene with extra manpower.

After reaching the patient, firefighters coordinated with Mahwah EMS to package the patient for safe removal from the rough terrain. The patient was successfully transported down the trail on a UTV and turned over to a waiting ambulance for transport to an area hospital.

All units operated on scene for approximately 90 minutes before returning to quarters.
