Wyandotte Moving Forward Forward thinking community hub promoting fresh ideas, positive social change, events around town, & building community relationships.

Message us if you have something to share! Welcome to Wyandotte Moving Forward-a hub for conversation, community events, and ideas aimed at making, and supporting, positive social changes in our city. Our Mission
We believe in making a proactive community impact and bringing ideas to life based on the following practices/goals:

• Inclusion-We respect and appreciate diverse people and ideas. We al

l have unique backgrounds and skills. Community is a team effort and everyone has something valuable to contribute. We are definitely stronger and more effective when we work together.

• Respectful Communication-Diverse thinking often means diverse ideas. We believe in sharing ideas and formulating plans through the use of respectful, constructive communication. We can only move forward if we are building each other up and not tearing each other down.

• Empowering/Inspiring the Next Generation-Young people and families are vital to strengthening our sense of community but also in carrying on our efforts to the generations that follow. We want to give them the support and opportunity to be successful. We aim to involve young people in our civic process by developing events where they can learn, volunteer, job shadow, and establish a sense of investment in their community. In addition, we want to attract younger families to become a part of Wyandotte by choosing to live, or remain living, within the city.

• Neighborhood Stabilization-We are accountable for our community and need to take the initiative to maintain a quality standard of life. Not only must we care for our own residences and spaces, but act proactively with the city to make sure others do so as well.

• Supporting Local Business-We all benefit from a strong, stable local business network. They need our support- certainly by shopping locally, but also by supporting their needs on a political level.

• Political Awareness and Involvement-Decisions made by the mayor and council affect all of us and we believe in being participatory in our city’s democratic process. We are the driving voice of accountability; we need to make sure that local politicians, not only hear our voice, but act on it as well. Together We Can…Together We Will…Be The Change.

Schools play a vital role in the community. Strong schools strengthen neighborhood connections by fostering relationships that build trust and family ties.

This November 8th, our community will be voting on who will shape those relationships and make decisions for our district.

As we get ready to head to the polls, we need to understand the big issues and where we are as a community:

🔵 How safe are our schools?

🔵 How accessible and transparent is district information?

🔵 Does Wyandotte Public Schools work as a cohesive community?

We invite you to share your thoughts in the 2022 Wyandotte School Board Community Survey - a less than 10 minute poll aimed at identifying the most important issues in our district (link below).

Join us live on October 26th, for the 2022 Wyandotte School Board Debate - a community driven discussion, using your feedback, where we take a closer look at candidate platforms and get a better understanding of their views for the future of our schools.

We were hoping against hope that we wouldn’t have to make this announcement, but sadly we have to cancel the 2021 Wyandotte Mayoral Debate.

A debate is defined as a contestation between two or more persons and with one mayoral candidate declining the invitation, we cannot go forward with this segment of the program.

It was always our intention to produce a three part program that would include the council debate, a video montage of candidates who are running unopposed, and the mayoral debate. Each of these segments were to air weekly on the 7th, 14th, & 21st.

Unfortunately, there was a lack of participation/interest on some of the candidates parts. We wish things were different and hopefully they will be in the future.

We’ve received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the council debate and it was our pleasure to bring a new, inclusive format to Wyandotte voters. We hope to do more going forward!

Thank you for your support, Wyandotte ❤️
